Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads from Cheeky Wipes - for normal flow

Size:        24cm x 7cm suitable for most days of your period, or general incontinence.

Bamboo / Minky:  Leakproof Minkee outer, two layers microfibre, inner layer bamboo charcoal microfleece or bamboo terry

Ultrapad (PREORDER for Sept Delivery): Leakproof printed cotton or organic cotton outer layer (laminated), two absorbent cotton/organic cotton layers, inner layer cotton / organic cotton

Not sure which pad to choose? See our blog post for more details....

Care Instructions:  Wash at 20c or 30c, warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.  Line dry, reshape whilst damp.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill!

Please note that this listing is for a SINGLE pad, multipacks are available separately.

Why not add some of our reusable intimate wipes to your order and / or a wetbag for carrying clean and dirty pads / wipes? You can also buy the pads in packs of 5 or 10 , alternatively take a look at our Cheeky Mama Sanitary Pad kits and SAVE money!

Day Pads

Very comfortable to wear, easy to wash and dry quickly. The smaller size does not move too much but the slightly bigger ones tend to slide backwards. I do need the extra length but they do not always do the job.

Day pads - wish I'd tried these years ago! Perfect.
Tuesday, 20 September 2016  |

Like a lot of ladies, I came around to the idea of cloth sanitary pads after having great success cloth nappying my baby. I only wish I'd tried these years ago - they are superior to disposable pads in just about every way!

Since having a baby I've found tampons very uncomfortable so I started using pads much more, but couldn't stand throwing so much rubbish in the bin. As well as saving on waste, there are several other nice features:
1) Comfortable... They are not just 'okay', these pads are actively much more pleasant to wear than disposables. Soft and comforting! No more scratchy crinkly plasticky feeling.
2) Absorption... They absorb much faster and basically better than disposables.
3) Exercise... They stay put (for moderate levels of exercise), and don't get sticky/gross or disintegrate like disposables.
4) Fit... Although they are bulkier than disposables, it doesn't make any more difference to what I can wear.
5) Look nice... I got the purple minky and they are very pretty

The only downside is of course the washing procedure: you have to be more careful than with cloth nappies because hot treatment (and some chemicals) will permanently set blood so you can't just chuck them in with your normal laundry. I've been hand washing them and trying different soaps, funnily enough a normal bar of Simple soap worked better than either bio or non-bio laundry liquid for me.

I'll be recommending them to anyone who will listen!

Give it a go – you might surprise yourself
Monday, 11 April 2016  |

"When I first researched cloth nappies – before the birth of my first baby – I did happen upon the subject of cloth sanitary wear… and I was (to be quite honest) completely shocked and quite scared by the concept. Cloth nappies, I was completely on board with – I knew I would make those happen – I was completely, and totally committed to avoiding landfill and reducing the impact of my procreation on the planet in this way. But cloth sanitary towels…? Sponge tampons…? No way! Some people just take this eco thing too far!

So I cloth-bummed my first… then discovered used reusable wipes… then I cloth-bummed my second. Then one day I watched a friend use a whole roll of kitchen towel to (kindly!) mop up a tub of yogurt I’d dropped and was weeping over in my newborn-owner-wretched state – and I thought to myself what a waste! That was the last roll I bought. So, you see, I gradually slipped into a more reusable lifestyle.

When introduction of solids was underway enough with my second for my periods to return I was suddenly conscious of the waste and the chemicals. Did I really want my bits (bits which brought my beloved babies into this world after all) to be in such very close contact with plastic and goodness- knows-what? My wolf-pack of mamas had whispered about moon-cups – but I wasn’t ready for that. Then the subject of CSP came up again. And this time I was ok with it. Not completely ok – the thought of soaking and rinsing make me feel squeamish – but okay enough to try it.

What a revelation! All this time I’d been buying into products that promised to be ‘cotton fresh’ or to contain ‘extract of silk’… it seems like such a no-brainer now – why not just cut out the middleman and actually have fabric next to your skin instead of plastic profit pushing products posing as such! I’m not joking. ALL the things you don’t like about sanitary towels – the sweat, the less-than-fresh smell that makes you want to shower every two seconds – the itchy feelings – even the visual horror of seeing your own blood on a bleached white paper – they’re not products of your period – they are products of your products! And they make you want to change pad quicker… Now why might a giant moneymaking industry want to make you do that?

With cloth I feel safer – it’s very reassuring to have something a bit more noticeable down there. They are not so bulky that you’d notice them though – or that I’d change my outfit to accommodate them. The charcoal top of my chosen pads mean that primal alarm bells are not set off when I catch sight of it when I pop to the loo, causing me to change it every single visit, regardless of time used. And the feeling of the product – they are so soft! They feel like a luxury. The colours are really gorgeous.

With cloth I own my period – it does not own me. I get to use these lovely pads and I am self-sufficient. I never again will have to drag myself off to the shop, cramps impeding my journey, to hand over my vaguely embarrassing purchase to the spotty Saturday boy to scan before I can carry on with my day. I thought reducing environmental impact would be my main motivation here – but it’s not – it’s much more than that. I am a complete cloth convert (and a bit of a bore if you get me on the subject!) Give it a go – you might surprise yourself. Thanks Cheeky Wipes!"

Great product and service.
Monday, 7 March 2016  |

I normally use a mooncup for my monthly period which has severved me very well but I sometimes suffer from random bleeds so permanently wear sanitary pads which is just so wasteful. I was recommended Cheeky Mama's by a friend and am so impressed. The pad is soft, comfortable, slim and very absorbant. I had no leaks even after going horse riding and the pad didn't scrunch up or move. I'm definitely going to buy more and recommend them to friends.

Ideal size good value.

I misread the amount of sanitary pads and thought my parcel would contain more than one sanitary pad as illustrated in the accompanying photo to my order. The pad that came is well made and very soft, but alas, felt to uncomfortable to wear and slipped backwards and scrunched up in the middle. I think the pads are a wonderful idea, but not for me.

Love using these pads- so much more comfortable than scratchy disposables and lovely to think you're helping reduce landfill as well. They're possibly bulkier than most people might be used to, but once they're on you don't feel it. No slipping issues here- you just need to make sure you've got the nap of the fabric facing the right way and wear fitted underwear. Give them a go- they also wash really well- soak in cold water then wash on a cool cycle- very clean and not at all horrid to deal with.

No more toilet roll!
Thursday, 13 July 2017  |  Ruth

Well initially I was a little grossed out by the idea of this but had recently bought some cloth sanitary pads (sorry, not CW) elsewhere as I was fed up of buying so many TENA let alone filling the bin and landfill with them, I was so pleasantly surprised at how nice they were and my friend had been raving about how great CW were for her kids that I decided I would take the adult version plunge! Toilet Paper Alternative. I've had to pack them away for a few weeks while my bathroom is being renovated (I didn't want my lovely wipes and boxes to be covered in dust, muck and dirt!) and I miss them so much!!! I can honestly say once the bath room is finished there will be no going back! You feel so fresh! You only need one wipe per visit whether you're doing a "number 2" or just a pee. Not having to buy loads of toilet paper and flushing so much down the toilet is just a bonus!! Like some others have commented the mucky box is a bit small for using as a toilet paper alternative but I love the system and that the mucky box even has a scent too! I might look into the idea that others have suggested of a pedal bin with the mesh bag as the bag is much bigger than the mucky wipes box. I love all the different scents and bought them all to try. I also got some flannel wipes for hands and face and use the rose and geranium oil with a bit of the coconut oil for them. Lovely! I've got dermatitis on my hands and they just love the coconut oil!
Hurry up workmen, I want to use my cheeky wipes again!

Better than expected

I was a little apprehensive about trying cloth sanitary towels. My periods are heavy and I routinely had to use night time disposables throughout my period. I bought the starter pack which only has one night time pad so I did wonder if it would be a disaster. I needn't have worried. The pads are pretty (I got mixed patterns) and super soft. They feel comfortable to wear and no slippage if you take care to check that the nap is in the right direction and knickers are well fitting. No leaking problems and the day time pad coped fine. Washing out was simple and they come up as new. I used a little bit of vanish and washed on a cold setting. They take a while to dry so the starter pack wasn't big enough to get me through my whole period but I'm so pleased with the towels that I've ordered some more. Being environmental is a bonus.

I just love these towels. They are so comfy. I have endometriosis so need to wear them everyday. Disposable towels were literally making me miserable, so uncomfortable and itchy. But these are a game changer. Also I have fibromyalgia and am very sensitive to things on my body. So I can't thank you enough. I have various sizes. I hand wash them and they come up like new. ( cold water mind!)

I thought the normal wipes were soft but these are something else! Using on newborn skin without the oils and a million times easier than cotton wool.

Perfect fabric for little hands and faces
Thursday, 4 May 2017  |  Debbie

This is a handy little kit for weaning, especially if you're following baby-led approaches or if little one is a fan of finger foods. Microfibres are the perfect all round cloth for this, pick up the dirt - no matter how sticky - yet they're soft and gentle on baby's skin. The number of wipes I'm saving from landfil is just an added bonus!

I wish I had found out sooner !
Tuesday, 2 May 2017  |  Gillian

I'm a forty something woman now , imagine the money and bit of the planet I could have saved if I had discovered cloth sanitary pads as a teenager ?! ( ok cheekywipes weren't invented then ).not to mention the Thrush angle - I've not had thrush ( a regular monthly visitor ) since I switched to cloth towels - makes sense when you think about it your pants don't give you thrush do they ? I've gone for the charcoal ones this time just because my old ones , I've had them for years now , are looking a bit grey - well I would have chucked my old greying pants by now ! They are still perfectly functional but this time if they start off grey then I won't have to think about it .
Snug fitting pants are the answer and as my thong days are gone it's not an issue - just think you will never have that horrible sticky pad sticking in the wrong place or yanking a hair out feeling again !.( ok just me is it ?)

Absolutely love cheeky wipes, can't believe I waited so long to take the plunge into reuseable wipes. Would highly recommend. Have since purchased extra boxes to use with my newborn and 1year old so we can have a set upstairs and down!
