The Minnie Moo Car Seat Cover – reuse and rejuvenate your old car seat….

May 17th, 2011

Just before the lovely Aerin arrived we dug out our old car seat for the final time.  It’s a Maxi-Cosi, so a good make, but has seen better days, ever since I removed the cover to wash it prior to the arrival of no2 son.  I should really have checked the washing instructions first as it recommended sponge washing only.  Oops.  The cover came out of the washing machine frayed and a bit on the tired side to say the least.

I really begrudge shelling out for a new car seat, especially when it works perfectly but just looks a bit scruffy.  So instead I’ve gone for one of the new car seat covers from Minnie Moo.  They’re lightly padded and fitted with an elastic edging to ensure a snug fit.  They even come with a hood to protect from the sun, although I haven’t fitted mine yet.

The fabric used is a funky cow-print – I went for brown but the standard black and white is lovely too.

They’re priced at £25 but compared to spending £80 on a new car seat, it’s definitely worth it.

And, even better, they are fully washable, brilliant if you have a travel sick baby!

So if your existing car seat is, like mine, a bit knackered, or if you’ve been lucky enough to be given one that’s just a bit tired you should definitely invest in one of these.

Review on Mellow Mummy

February 1st, 2011

Just a quick post from me as I’ve just seen a fabulous review over on Mellow Mummy which the lovely Emma carried out.

Like myself Emma has ‘issues’ with baby wipes and even has a wipes index list. A couple of months ago, I spotted a post musing over the fact that she had tried making her own reusable wipes but that they hadn’t worked for her…. so I dropped Emma a line to see if she’d like to try Cheeky Wipes.

Her review is now online here and if you take a look, you can see that I’ve given Emma an exclusive peek at our new improved Cheeky Wipes kits, which are available to pre-order now.

Buying for Baby – What do you really need for baby no 2?

January 25th, 2011

With baby no4 due in a couple of months, and the Excel baby show coming up, I thought it was about time that I mentally reviewed our baby equipment situation.  After all, if there is anything I *need* then it makes sense to take advantage of the offers which abound at the show.

If you’re due to have another baby, you’ve probably got the essentials already: cot, pram, car seat, feeding equipment, and a travel cot. So what else do you actually need?

Essentials

Well depending on how old your first child is, you’ll need some form of transport.  Options range from double buggies (I love my nipper out and about, but it’s massive!), or keep your existing buggy and add a buggy board if your child is slightly older.  Alternatively, keep your older child in the buggy and just use a sling for the littl’un.  I used a combo of double buggy / existing pram and sling depending on where I was going, how far it was and whether they would have space for my buggy or not when I got there!

Slings aren’t just useful when you’re out and about though.  I called my Kari-me sling my ‘hands-free’ kit for bubs no3 as there was no way I could get anything done otherwise.  It was a real life-saver and super comfy to wear around the house too.

Of course you’ll need more teeny tiny nappies (cloth or disposable) and if you’re using Cheeky Wipes it’s probably worth investing in some additional wipes so that you’ve got plenty on hand for those newborn poo’s.

Nice to have’s

I think pretty much everything else falls into the ‘nice to have’ list.  Top of this list is one of the fabulous breastfeeding scarves from Mamascarf which not only allows you to feed more discreetly (without tucking a muslin into your bra strap which is what I’ve done until now!) but also supports the baby.

Next, some new baby-gro’s and vests as the old ones are a bit tired now.  And I think I really want one of the fabulous baby blankets from My Little Patch, I’ve got my eye on a lovely spotted flannelette and minkee one which is just gorgeous.

Lastly, I might just treat bubs to some of the lovely Baby Shampoo from Burts Bees which is just gorgeous, so lovely to use on their super-soft skin and just yummy smelling without being overpowering.

Have I missed anything?  Let me know if I have!

Recommend a Friend scheme

November 16th, 2010

I thought it was worthwhile to remind everyone again about our ‘recommend a friend’ scheme where you and a friend could save £5 on Cheeky Wipes.

It’s very simple. If you love your Cheeky Wipes and want to tell everyone about them, just send your friends a link to this page.
To save £5, they just need to enter the coupon code ‘recommend’ and they’ll receive £5 off the Cheeky Wipes all-in-one kit.

When they get to the checkout page, they need to enter your email address in the ‘email address of the friend who recommended us’ field.

We’ll then send them an email with a voucher for £5 off anything on the Cheeky Wipes site. It’s a manual process though so it might take a few weeks for this to arrive!

Easy!

Alternative christening and naming ceremony gifts

August 5th, 2010

So you know what it’s like. You’ve been invited to a christening or naming ceremony and have run out of inspiration for gifts. Bibles and prayer books just aren’t appropriate for whatever reason. Silver spoons or other silverware which was thought to represent ongoing financial security for the child, now seem a bit twee. Unless of course it’s a gorgeous silver charm bracelet for a little girl – no-one can resist those!

However for many people these items are simply put in a drawer and forgotten which seems to be a real shame.  Here’s a few alternative christening / naming ceremony gifts for you to consider.

Height Chart

My eldest boy received a height chart shaped like an aeroplane for his christening.  It was brightly coloured and has been on the back of his bedroom door ever since. But they’re not just for boys, there are many variations available in all colours and themes including the ever popular giraffe chart.

Hand-made stool

My youngest children received two beautiful hand-made stools for their joint naming ceremony.  They’re just a perfect size for little ones to clamber up onto, with sturdy legs meaning that they don’t tip over easily. Ours are used every day, but they now use them to climb up and get things that they shouldn’t do from the worktop, so maybe that’s not such a good idea!

Set of books

Another brilliant option for a naming ceremony gift is a set of (hardbacked) books. My children have the ‘Thomas the tank engine’ collection, plus all the Roald Dahl books and Audio CD’s. Snuggling up with a book before bed-time is something loved by both parents and children alike, so you can’t really go wrong with it?

Instant Photo Guest Book

Our last alternative is an Instant Photo Guest Books. Just ask everyone attending the christening or naming ceremony to complete the book, taking their picture and writing a message underneath for the child. It could be a piece of wisdom you wish to pass on, something frivolous or whatever you like really, but it will be a marvellous keepsake for the child to look back on in later years.

Instant Photo Guest Books come in a range of formats, including digital and fuji instax and are priced from £50 for the guest books alone, to £125 for kits including camera, guest book and film.

How to get your kids to eat more fruit…

July 8th, 2010

Sorry I haven’t been around for a while.  It’s been hectic, between Glasto and it being wedding season over at Instant Forever. But I thought I would drop you a little post about my newest and second best kitchen gadget of all time (after my Kitchenaid).

I recently attended a Pampered Chef party at a friends house. I went determined not to buy any more kitchen paraphernalia that would linger unloved in the bottom of a drawer, however I was won over with this little gadget. It’s not a product unique to Pampered chef as I found a ‘good grips’ alternative over at Amazon but I’d never seen one used before.

What sold me was the idea that you could use it to wedge your apple and then, without removing the core, wrap it all up in cling film for a packed lunch. Pleases even the fussiest eater – even no2 son eats his apples, carefully preserving the skin for the bin!

I’ve used it EVERY day since I bought it and there’s not many kitchen implements I can say the same thing for. My kids are definitely eating more apples and pears as a result which has got to be a good thing, right?

Blowing my trumpet…..

June 3rd, 2010

I’ve just received the most fabulous phone call and follow-up email from a customer that I had to share with you.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and wonder what on earth possessed me to start a new business with three small children and a looming recession. Emails like this make it all worthwhile:

Helen, Thanks so much for your help today! I wanted to offer a written testimonial on Cheeky Wipes.

I was a little uncertain to begin with as I thought they were a bit of a novelty item that seemed quite expensive if I’m honest.

Having used them now for 3 months I can assure everyone that they are amazing and totally worth the money – I haven’t bought any disposable wipes since – the two packs I had before using Cheeky Wipes are still in the drawer unopened!

My little boy Alex is now 4 months – we’ve been using them since he was 3 weeks old and we absolutely love them! He had a lot of nappy rash when he was first born (we gave up on the cotton wool and water very early due to hassle and an irrational hatred of cotten wool!) which cleared up totally as soon as we started using the Cheeky Wipes because the essential oils are so gentle and effective on wiping poo off rather than around, which is what we found the disposable wipes did.

We have also used cloth nappies from early on (also highly recommended!), so washing the Cheeky Wipes has never been a problem as we just throw them in the wash with the nappies each day. Some great advice I have been given on getting them white again once going grey or poo stained is to put them out on the line rather than bleach them – the sun bleaches them beautifully white again within a couple of hours!

Cheeky Wipes were recommended to me by another mum who had had them recommended to her – I have so far not met a mum who has used and not loved them, my friend and I even accosted a poor unassuming couple at the Cheeky Wipes stand at the NEC Baby & Toddler Show last month to rave about how wonderful they are!

I love them so much I have just bought a second set as Alex is now weaning so I wanted a set for his face to keep by his highchair downstairs!

Thanks so much for such a fab invention! Claire M, (Proud mum to Alex, 4 months)

I’m so chuffed, I had to share, so excuse me for blowing my own trumpet.  But if you’d like to read more, then visit my testimonials page.
