You probably know but one of the reasons that I started Cheeky Wipes is because I have really sensitive skin and have had eczema since I was a child. Thankfully now it is limited to the occasional flare-up (especially if I’m stressed or anxious. Or pregnant….)
Disposable wipes really irritate my hands, whereas I find Cheeky Wipes to be absolutely fine. I love all three of our fresh wipes essential oil blends, Lavender & Chamomile, mandarin & tea Tree Lemon and Rose & Rose Geranium.
Why do we use essential oils?
Well aside from smelling fabulous and leaving your baby smelling great, the essential oils also have other skin healing properties. Plus they’re all anti-septic and anti-bacterial to some extent. Lastly, they also act as a preservative, helping to keep your wipes smelling fresh. You can certainly use Cheeky Wipes without the fresh wipes oil, but we’d only recommend soaking as many as you would use in a day as otherwise they might go musty.
What if my baby is allergic to the oil or has a reaction?
It’s really unusual to be allergic or have a reaction to any of the oils, but it can happen. It is possible to be allergic to Lavender (and I know it can give some people Migraines) however you would probably be aware of this pretty quickly as it is contained in so many baby products for it’s soothing properties.
If your baby does have a reaction to any skincare product at any stage, immediately wash the affected area with clean water (pop them in the bath if it’s easier). Apply Sudo-Cream or similar if necessary until the redness dies down. IUse your Cheeky Wipes with water only for a few weeks and then you can re-introduce the oil – we usually recommend trying the mandarin version as a good alternative.

Let me start by saying that I love my husband. He works really hard to look after us all, in a stressful job, with a 4 1/2 hour daily round-trip commute and he STILL makes time to play with the kids when he gets home.
I get all that, really I do.
But that still doesn’t mean he doesn’t still irritate me now and again.
Last night, he wakened me from a deep sleep by saying ‘The baby is crying’. Really??? You woke me up to tell me that???
Now if this had been the other way round and I had wakened on hearing the baby (rather than being dead to the world because I’m obviously knackered), I would just have got up and dealt with her. I would never dream of waking up my sleeping husband to go and sort out any of the children. Unless we get into vomit territory of course such as a few months ago when I had no1 son and no2 son simultanaeously puking in different rooms….
So why does he feel that it’s reasonable to wake me up? I know he has to leave ridiculously early, but he can also sleep on the train, there’s no chance of so much as a 15 minute catnap for me. Besides which he was already awake!!!
Arrgghh.
Grumble over. Please feel free to share any similar moans and get them out of your system…..

Hello everyone!

Can I take a moment to introduce you all to Tom my new assistant here at Cheeky Wipes HQ? Tom has just started with us and going forward he’ll be answering your emails, getting your orders ready and generally helping out. You’ll get a chance to meet him at the Excel Baby show if you’re attending at the end of the month.
One of Tom’s first jobs has been getting our recommend a friend scheme vouchers updated and sent out by email. So check your in-box (and junk mail folder!) if you’ve been recommending us, a voucher could be waiting for you!
Tom will be updating the vouchers weekly from now on, so if you are telling your friends, make sure that they use the code ‘recommend’ to save £5 on the kit and also that they quote your email address when ordering. This offer only applies to new customers.

Sorry, this is a bit of a long rambling post, prompted by the fact that I love picking my baby up from nursery to see her smiling, happy and content and I realise how lucky I am with my nursery.

Being on maternity leave is fab isn’t it? Rolling out of bed (after having little sleep the night before to be fair), feeding bubs, eventually getting dressed before popping off to meet your Mummy friends for coffee and cake….
But there comes a time for many of us when that lovely period comes to an end, reality bites and we have to consider going back to work.
When my no1 son was 9 months old, I went back to my full-time job. Given that my full-time job meant commuting a minimum of 4 ½ hours daily (9 hours if I had to go to Derby), this meant we had to rely heavily on my lovely in-laws who used to look after him from Sunday night until Wednesday. It also meant that I didn’t see my little man for 3 days so needless to say it wasn’t that long until mothers guilt kicked in and I quit.
While still working full-time, on the days I spent working from home, no1 son went to nursery. It happened to be the nursery closest to us, which I liked from the moment I walked through the door because it had an open plan layout, so you could instantly see all the children at any one time.
Seven years on and all my children have been to the same nursery, currently no1 daughter and the baby are there at the same time. I still love the nursery (www.bluedoornursery.co.uk for anyone in the Seaford area, if you’re interested…). My children have an absolute whale of a time. I love picking baby Aerin up at the end of the day to hear that she might have paint between her toes as she has been painting that day (stripped off to her nappy, how cute). In all honesty, while I love the idea of doing that myself at home, I know it would be a nightmare in reality, trying to keep the other children out and avoiding paint being tramped everywhere through the house.
I love collecting no1 daughter to find her dressed as a princess, dancing around unobserved with the other children, in their own little world. And what is cute in my daughter was hysterically funny in no2 son, when I found him also dancing, but dressed in a purple princess outfit, which to me made him look like Princess Fiona from Shrek. I think I laughed until I cried.
There are so many childcare options out there, from nannies, to nurseries and childminders. The important thing is to work out what you need from your childcare and then set about finding it.
Childminders are great for a more individual service and most childminders can be flexible to some extent if you’re running late because a train is delayed, or you’re caught in traffic for example.
My nursery is pretty flexible with being able to fit in extra sessions at short-ish notice. I think out of all the times that I’ve needed extra sessions there has only been one instance when they couldn’t help me out which is really helpful. It’s unlikely that a childminder could easily provide this flexibility as they’re more restricted on numbers.
Cost is obviously also an issue, with childminders generally being cheaper than a nursery. This can be off-set if your nursery accepts childcare vouchers which many companies provide their employees with as a tax-efficient element of their pay. Worth looking into. Some VERY forward thinking employers also provide nursery on-site, which is perfect as it saves you having to pay for travelling time.
Whatever childcare option you decide on, remember if you’re not happy or your child isn’t happy, let them know. And if you don’t get it resolved, change it. It’s not worth the stress otherwise.

We’ll pick a winner every day in February from the previous days feedback (either blog comment, email or facebook) using the random number generator. And you’ll get a set of coloured wipes. Easy!
And as if that wasn’t enough, to celebrate launching the kits there are two more fabulous competitions running. One is at My Mummies Pennies and it’s to win a set of Cheeky Wipes. The other is over at Pushchair Trader, so make sure you pop along and try your hand!
