Which fabric of cloth baby wipe is best for your baby?

Tuesday, 26 March 2013  |  Admin

This isn't a brand new post but it is one worth revisiting (and one that I'll be sharing with the Real Nappy Week community shortly too.I'm often asked which cloth baby wipe is 'best' but the answer is that they're all good for different purposes. Here's the main types of cloth wipe available, and a short summary of pros and cons.Terry Towelling - Cost ££ (£10 - £15 for 25 wipes)These are the standard 'go-to,' workhorse, all rounder wipe.Pros

  • Can be used for faces and bottoms
  • The best at removing poo quickly and easily
  • Strong, will wash well
Cons
  • Least soft fabric, prone to limescale build up over time (although this is easily remedied with white vinegar or fabric conditioner)
Bamboo - Cost £££ (£15 - £20 for 25 wipes)These are the premium all round wipe as they are softer than terry towellingPros
  • Can also be used for faces and bottoms
  • Also remove poo easily
  • Softer than terry, will not suffer from limescale build up
  • Bamboo is an environmentally friendly, fabric which is naturally anti-bacterial
  • Wash well
Cons
  • More expensive than terry
Velvet Microfibre - Cost £ (£10 for 25 wipes)These are the premium wipe for hands & faces as they are thick but very soft when wet.Pros
  • Supersoft for faces and hands
  • Clean up quickly and easily
  • The softest wipe available, will not suffer from limescale build up
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Can't be used for poo as microfibre tends to traps fibres - not good when this is poo fibres
Fleece - Cost £ (£10 for 25 wipes)An alternative man-made wipe which can be used for faces and bottoms.Pros
  • Soft, will not suffer from limescale build up
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Personally, we don't recommend fleece wipes because of their tendency to smear which makes them less pleasant to use
Minkee - Cost £££ (£15 - £20 for 25 wipes)An alternative silky man-made wipe.Pros
  • Silky soft, will not suffer from limescale build up
Cons
  • Again, although minkee wipes are soft, we don't recommend them because of their tendency to smear which makes them less pleasant to use
Hopefully this helps a little. If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to drop us a line.
