Brand:  Cheeky Wipes

Cheeky Wipes mission is to provide simple reusable alternatives to single-use products, and this is why we are SUPER excited to be partnering with non-profit City to Sea, with their mission to reduce plastic pollution at source.

Here in the UK a staggering 4.3 billion disposable menstrual products are used every year! Many people don’t realise that most period and incontinence pads (including Always, Bodyform and most supermarket own-brands) can contain up to 90% plastic – the equivalent of five plastic bags per pack of 14 pads. Most tampons also contain a thin layer of plastic.

What’s more, although no period products should go down the loo, it’s estimated that between 1.5 – 2 billion menstrual products are flushed down UK loos every year. Many of these items block our sewer systems and escape into our rivers and seas. Period products are now the 5th most common item found littering European beaches.

We've created a range of co-branded products to help raise funds and awareness of their fantastic work. For one of these pads purchased, we’ll give £1 to City to Sea.

Cheeky Pants Cloth Sanitary Pads from Cheeky Wipes - for light flow

Size:        19cm x 7cm (approx.) suitable for light days of your period or mild incontinence

Bamboo / Minky:  Leakproof Minkee outer, one layer microfibre, inner layer bamboo charcoal or bamboo terry

What's the difference between these and the cotton pads? The bamboo minky pads are made of microfibre and bamboo or charcoal with a minky outer, being manmade materials, these tend to be a little warmer to wear than the cotton pads. The bamboo minky pads are also slightly thicker and therefore more absorbent than cotton pads, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky rather than the cotton.

Please note that this listing is for a SINGLE pad. Buy 5 or 10 to SAVE money (discount applied at checkout)

Cheeky Pants Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill!

Why not add some of our reusable intimate wipes to your order and / or a wetbag for carrying clean and dirty pads / wipes? Take a look at our Cheeky Pants Sanitary Pad kits and SAVE money!

Bamboo / Bamboo Charcoal facing upwards

Insert the pad into your knickers with the bamboo or bamboo charcoal face upwards.  Close the poppers underneath the gusset of your knickers.

Tight Pants

Firstly, I usually try to wear fairly tight fitting pants.  If you usually keep your old, saggy. baggy pants which have really seen better days for that time of the month, time to invest in some new ones!  Tighter pants will help a cloth pad stay in place and avoid slippage.  Cotton knickers are best or cotton / lycra mix.

Turn around if you suffer from slippage

The soft outer Minky fabric has some grip - if it is inserted against the nap of the fabric.  If you notice that your pad is slipping, turn it around 180 degrees, front to back.

  • Rinse them in cold water when you change them and then soak in cold water until you are ready to wash them.
  • Wash at 20c or 30c on a longer cycle, warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.
  • You can give them a squirt of stain spray and/or add a scoop of stain powder to the wash

  • No fabric softener!

  • Line dry, reshape whilst damp.
  • Do not tumble dry

  • No bleach

  • Wash dark colours separately.

  • Vegan friendly

Gorgeous!
Friday, 4 September 2020  |

I bought a couple of both City to Sea patterns and they are gorgeous! The charcoal is a little lighter the other patterns but I can't see how that will affect the use at all, which is excellent. I much prefer the minky pads to the cotton.
I'm going to have to buy the day and night ones now!
