How to Store Reusable Baby Wipes Like a Pro
Hello, eco-conscious parents!
Today, we're getting into the nitty gritty of reusable baby wipes. If you’ve decided to ditch disposable baby wipes or are thinking about it, you know these little wipes are not just a win for your wallet but also a win for our planet.
Reusable wipes are gentle enough for using even on newborn babies, right through to toddlers so you'll definitely get loads of use out of them.
However to make the most of them, storing them correctly is key. Good storage can make the difference between making life easy for yourself - or not!
I should know! I started using washable wipes when my son was born and at one point was carrying a bulky tupperware box around in my changing bag. Spoiler alert, there are much simpler solutions for carrying your dry and wet cloth wipes on the go!
After a couple of years though, I had perfected my reusable wipes game and that's what lead me to start Cheeky Wipes way back in 2008, with our bestselling reusable wipes kit which makes switching to reusable wipes EASY!
Whether it’s a messy face, a sticky hand, or a poonami nappy change, good wipes storage is important. Let's explore some top tips and tricks for keeping your reusable wipes in tip-top shape and making life easy for yourself!
"Love the ease of the wipe box, and the storage box for used wipes is great too. Everything is really well made and robust. The wipes are soft and easy to wash and dry. Highly recommend for anyone trying to cut down on single use plastics and single use wipes ." Tabitha, Trustpilot
Dry Storage
First things first: after you wash your reusable wipes, make sure they are bone dry to dodge any mould or mildew nightmares. You can air them out or give them a quick tumble dry.
Once dry, stash them in a clean, dry container or wetbag to keep them neat and ready to go. Remember though you'll either need water on hand to wet the wipes before use, or you'll need to use a spray bottle or something like our Harry & Rose Wipes Spray.
Once you've used the wipes, you can pop them straight into the washing machine if you're just using them for hands & faces. If you're using them for bums, store with your dirty cloth nappies or our mucky wipes container.
"I have been using the Kit for a couple of weeks now - 25 wipes, with fresh storage box and essential oil. I LOVE IT. I have only used the wipes so far for wet nappies. Gearing up for the dirty ones! I love the size, thickness and ease of use. The essential oil smells lovely. The wipes wash well, I add them to my normal wash load and if you need them before they are dry, just put them in the fresh store box with more water and oil and use." Heidi, Trustpilot
Wet Wipes Storage
Here at Team Cheeky, we prefer to keep our wipes moist and ready to use, just like disposable wipes. It makes life easier but can be a bit trickier to get right.
Whip up a simple wipes solution (check our our Cheeky Wipes essential oil solutions or poppets for some inspo) and soak the wipes in your container.
Opt for a plastic box with a tight-fitting lid ideally to keep them snug and moist, but not sopping wet. This method is perfect for quick changes without the fuss.
The Cheeky wipes containers come in two versions...the smaller one for fresh wipes, then the mucky wipes container which has space for an internal mesh bag and pop top lid. This makes getting those mucky wipes into the washing machine dead easy. Again, you can also store mucky wipes with your reusable nappies and wash them all together.
Remember to place it in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight.
"Eco alternatives that work. I've been using cheeky wipes for a few months and I couldn't imagine going back. As an alternative to toilet paper, baby wipes and make up removal wipes these are so soft and gentle on your skin.
The storage containers are fab easy to use and clean and the essential oils make them a delight to use. Cheeky wipes I hope your company continues to develop and grow and show they way forward in personal reusable." Seonaid, Trustpilot
Travelling Wipes Storage
On the move or out for the day? No problem!
Travel wet bags are perfect for stashing pre-moistened wipes or dry ones, depending on your preference. Cheeky double pocket bags are not only adorable but also practical, keeping your fresh and dirty wipes handy and hygienic while you’re out and about. Just toss them in your changing bag, and you’re good to go.
Top Tips for Storing Reusable Baby Wipes
Moist, not wet
If you’re going for wet storage, keep your wipes wet but not dripping. Excess water can lead to bacteria growth or musty wipes. Yuck!
Regular cleaning
It’s vital to clean both the wipes and the storage container regularly to maintain hygiene. You can even run them through the dishwasher on the top rack only.
Sunlight is a no-go
Store your wipes containers out of direct sunlight to prevent the wipes from drying out or the growth of bacteria.
Rotation is key
Keep rotating your stock of wipes. If you have a few wipes left from your last batch, make sure you put them on top and use the oldest ones first to keep things fresh.
Check the seal
Make sure your storage containers seal tightly to keep the wipes just right, especially if you're storing them wet.
Conclusion
That’s a wrap on storing your reusable baby wipes! Embracing reusable wipes is a fantastic step towards a more sustainable lifestyle, and with these tips, you’ll be a pro in no time.
