Our Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pad Ultrapad full kits contain:
Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes.
Care Instructions: Cold wash only, line dry, reshape whilst damp. Warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.
What's the difference between these and the bamboo minky pads? The ultrapads are made of cotton which is a natural material rather than minky which is manmade. As such it tends to be cooler to wear. They are also thinner, so if you prefer a thinner more discreet pad or if you're buying for a teenager, these are perfect for you. They are also less likely to move around as the cotton fabric will stay in place better. The downside of being thinner is that they are less absorbent, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky instead.
Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.
Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.
Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! Bamboo / Bamboo Charcoal facing upwards
Insert the pad into your knickers with the bamboo or bamboo charcoal face upwards. Close the poppers underneath the gusset of your knickers.
Firstly, I usually try to wear fairly tight fitting pants. If you usually keep your old, saggy. baggy pants which have really seen better days for that time of the month, time to invest in some new ones! Tighter pants will help a cloth pad stay in place and avoid slippage. Cotton knickers are best or cotton / lycra mix.
Turn around if you suffer from slippage
The soft outer Minky fabric has some grip - if it is inserted against the nap of the fabric. If you notice that your pad is slipping, turn it around 180 degrees, front to back.
I definitely recommend getting the full kit. It makes it super easy to deal with. Despite having heavier periods, I preferred using the cloth as they are slimmer and thinner and felt just like having an extra protection in my underwear, as even with tampons I will leak. The first wash I did I thought a fast wash having rinsed and soaked in the mucky box would be enough. However they stained, so the second time I used stain remover on a delicate 20 C wash and that worked fine. They take quite a long time to dry - so you do need enough pads to get you through your whole period. If you have a heavy flow and don't use a cup or tampons, I think you would be best using the pads with the bikini sports period pants for heavy days. I also tried the minky ones because of my heavy flow, but found them too fluffy, thick and hot to wear so made me quite uncomfortable and wouldn't have wanted to wear when out and about.

I am so glad I got the full kit with a mix of cotton and minkey style pads, it gave me a chance to experiment with the different options and decide which worked best for me. It also made moving over to reusables so easy as I had everything I needed on hand to get going, At the same time I also purchased a double wet bag and a 3 pack of period pants. Having only used these items for one period so far, I did still have to use a disposable pad because I hadn't factored in the washing and drying time, but I'll know better next time. So far, I have washed on a separate cold wash and they've all come up perfectly clean and ready to go again. The t-tree drops to go in the mucky box is a nice touch and helps keep everything fresh smelling between washes. My only struggle with the move to reusable sanitary products was being able to find somewhere discrete to rinse pads when not at home, when I wasnít able to do this I dropped the pad in my travel bag anyway and made sure to give it a really good soak, and some stain remover, as soon as possible and theyíve been fine.
I bought some cotton pads and some minky pads as I wasn't sure which ones would suit me best. After using them for a couple of months I think I prefer the cotton pads personally although I have found that these have stained slightly whereas the minky ones haven't.I have a very active job and once I worked out which way round they went I have felt very secure and have had no leakage. They feel comfortable, fresh and I've not looked back! I have recommended these to any woman who will listen lol.
Iíve been suffering with bladder issues since having chemo for breast cancer and been having to use tenna style pads to avoid frequent knicker and trouser changes etc. But itís been bugging me that while Iím using reusable wipes and nappies on my baby Iím binning non recyclable pads every single day for myself not just at period time. So I contacted Cheeky Wipes to ask if these sanitary pads would be any good for bladder weakness and they said yes. Eventually I took the plunge and ordered the kit. Iíve been using them for just over a week and they are brilliant. The pads are so much more comfortable. They donít rub or cause chafing and I donít feel like theyíre upsetting my natural system down there risking thrush as I did with the disposable pads. And of course so much more environmentally friendly. Iím currently due baby no.2 anytime so Iíll be interested to see how well they perform and wash clean as actual sanitary pads when my period returns.
I first purchased some trial pads as I was unsure of the whole thing!I was really surprised at how comfy they are.I saved up and purchased the full kit.Top tip: if you find you 'slip' or leak over the front, just turn them around. (180į)
Not great quality unfortunately
Love this kit! Used the pads for first time last week and thereís no way Iíll be going back to disposables. They are comfy, absorbent and I didnít experience any movement from the pads either. There was no uncomfortable itchiness that I normally had in the past. The mucky box is great and did the job. I just rinsed the pads in cold water and then left them to soak in the box, there was no grossness about it. I definitely recommend!
Love these pads. So much more absorbant than disposable pads and they look lovely too.
I'm using these for mild incontinence leaks. I've never really got on with disposables (make me itchy) so I have been continuing to use the reusable pads I used pre menopause. However, they've had up to 20 years of periodic (excuse the pun 😉 use and while they've saved load of money in that time, they have seen better days, so I decided its time to replace them. The cheeky Mama ultra pads are really comfy and so far they wash well and don't take too long to dry. I can't comment on the performance when Auntie Flo visits, but as leak protection they are perfect. I'll be topping up with more at some point, just waiting for some different prints to become available.I'd say that the liner size is suitable as a replacement for the big brand T**a lady disposables slim liners. The normal day pad can replace the slightly thicker normal range of pads, and I would imagine that the night ones would be suitable for bigger leaks and overnight if needed.Very well made and soft and comfy to wear.
