Our Cheeky Mama Ultrapad Cotton Cloth Sanitary Pad starter kits contain:

Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes or a mucky box to soak your dirty pads

What's the difference between these and the bamboo minky pads? The ultrapads are made of cotton which is a natural material rather than minky which is manmade. As such it tends to be cooler to wear. They are also thinner, so if you prefer a thinner more discreet pad or if you're buying for a teenager, these are perfect for you. They are also less likely to move around as the cotton fabric will stay in place better. The downside of being thinner is that they are less absorbent, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky instead.

Care Instructions:  Cold wash only, line dry, reshape whilst damp. Warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! Ok so far
Wednesday, 13 March 2019  |

Only used once so far, but pads seem to move around and are a bit bulky. They're well-made but so far I've found the smaller ones are not suitable for anything other than a 'light' day.

The bag to keep them all in, while useful, is so bright. I ordered a 'grey bird' bag and it's bright red! As the images don't change according to your choice on the dropdown it's not clear what bag you're receiving. It's not very discreet when I'm carrying it to the bathroom at work!

Thanks for taking the time to review the starter kit and I hope the pads were effective on their first use? They are our slimmest pads so I'm sorry if you found them a bit bulky. With the absorbent layers they will be slightly thicker than a disposable but do have more absorbency.
The smallest pad in the kit is the liner and these are great for lighter days or everyday use so I hope they come in useful at the beginning and end of your period. I find 1 liner lasts me the whole day on a lighter day.
We do recommend wearing a good tight pant with some lycra in to keep the pads in place. I go for my trusty M&S bikini style with 5% lycra and they don't budge!

A little big
Sunday, 27 January 2019  |

The pads are made of lovely soft cotton and so feel lovely when you wear them. But they are rather big and bulky - like wearing an old style sanitary pad, and kind of crumple up, rather than lying flat. So, I will probably only use them overnight as I wouldn’t feel confident/comfortable wearing them out and about. However, this is really what I wanted them for as I want to not use a tampon overnight. So although bulky, they do work well for what I want.

So comfy
Sunday, 20 January 2019  |

I suffer from "oops" moments due to a complete lack of oestrogen thanks to the joy of breast cancer and oestrogen blocking pills for the last 14 years. I find I need to use pads/panty liners most days (when I am going out) just to feel confident. My skin is red raw in the "lady regions". A few days of these combined with the alternative toilet paper kit and my skin has already improved loads. Nowhere near as sore and no longer bleeding. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Brilliant.

A new beginning
Wednesday, 12 December 2018  |

These formed part of my starter kit on my new journey into reusable sanitary products. They are lovely, soft and flexible. I had no issues with leaks. Good for those who are sensitive down there to be able to use cotton pads.

Love these
Saturday, 1 September 2018  |

I tried these and the bamboo and minky ones and I preferred these. They feel nicer and stay in place better. The downsides are they take a while to dry and you can’t tumbke dry them but a dehumidifier would help speed that up I guess. Also they stained quite badly but I know line drying will help bleach that off. I would definitely recommend them

I can honestly say that having used these cotton sanitary pads for one period, not only will I never go back to the awful scented plasticky disposable ones, but I only wish that I had made the change years ago, They are reliably leak proof, comfortable, easy to use and wash and the only sanitary product I have ever used which hasn't given me a bout of thrush. I can't recommend them highly enough. The only improvement I can suggest would be one more pad in the starter kit just to not have to worry about them being dry in time to reuse them.

Not what I was expecting
Monday, 8 May 2017  |

I decided to try the starter set based on the picture as it was really hard to tell what I would be getting and what turned up was not what I was expecting. I'm not entirely convinced they are for me either as they kept slipping around when I was wearing them. Having said that they are very comfy and I mostly could forget I had them on.

Just a couple of ideas for you to stop the slipping - the underside fabric (the minky side) can be brushed in 2 different directions. If you are finding the pad slipping a little, try turning it 180 degrees so what was at the front is now at the back - this sounds odd but if the fabric is going in the other direction it grips better on your underwear and stays put! We also recommend wearing a tighter pant with a high percentage of lycra in, this also helps keep them in place.

Nice mixture of pads to try
Thursday, 4 May 2017  |

I've been really pleased with the pads so far, but due to an error on my part they weren't quite what i was expecting! As they were in the 'cotton cloth ultrapad' section i thought i would be getting a mixture of sizes and colours of just the ultrapads, when in fact you receive a mixture of all pads including bamboo and minky cloth. This is clear now i've re-read the description (entirely my fault for not reading it properly!) but i wonder if this might sit better on the general 'cloth san pads' page alongside the links to the two different types of pad, rather than just under the 'ultrapads' section? Just to save any confusion.

Great addition to my reusable period kit.
Monday, 18 March 2019  |  Sheryl

They are great. They hold a good amount and have never leaked. They are generously sized so go down a size rather than up. They are really comfortable and make me feel very secure during my period. I also wear them for the just in case days as they are more comfortable than reusable panty liners. I bought one pair initially then a three pack as I was so happy with the first pair. I tend to use tjese rather than pads now.

So amazing

After struggling with cotton wool balls I'll never look back having started using this kit a few days ago.
Bamboo terry is so soft on skin yet super effective at cleaning.
Customer service out of this world.
I thought it was a bit pricey but it's so worth it. No wonder this brand has commandeered the market!

Perfect and very impressed so far

I am cautious about my period and always wear a pad that I change twice daily a few days before I'm due. No longer needed and I'm currently day 3 in so through the worst of my period. I usually double up with a pad and tampon on heavy days but some times still end up leaking. The protection pad is so big no stains in the bed this month and I'm about a size 18-20 and the 16-18 fit perfectly.

Never going back!
Monday, 25 February 2019  |  Ziggi

So comfy and feels so “normal”! Never any moisture or residue in the underwear. When I did have to wear a towel (all pairs of knickers in the wash) it was the most artificial and weird feeling! I feel so much cleaner and fresher using the pants and so much more comfortable and confident. Just ordered another 3 pairs in the other style!

So comfy!!
Saturday, 16 February 2019  |  Rachel

So I wore these for the first time last night; the first night of my period which is my super heavy night....

Firstly, it felt SO comfy to go to bed without any pads on at all!
(I switched to washable pads about 2 years ago, which was already a huge improvement on the plasticy disposable ones, but I still ended up doubling up on this night of my period just to get the length to cover all the way back far enough to stop any leakages).

The absorbent area on these goes all the way to the waistline at the back on these so complete coverages. No leaks, even coped with clots, all night, 8 hours in total. These are a game changer!!

I'm staying overnight at a friend's house this evening and normally I might be worried about leaks, but I've packed my second pair and know there's nothing to worry about.

Also, excellent customer service AS ALWAYS when I had a query about my order.

Thank you!!

Bikini Period Pants
Thursday, 14 February 2019  |  Jennifer

These bikini style period pants have been great. True to size. I use them as a back up for my menstrual cup. Great for the gym as I wanted a back up more discreet than my cloth pads. You wouldn’t even know these weren’t normal pants. Only a 4 star as I feel the actual absorption part should come right up the front, so I don’t believe these would be much use for front bleeders (I wouldn’t be able to use them as my only sanitary protection) I also feel that these would only be suitable for light-medium flow periods due to how thin the protection is. I have a very very heavy flow, so I use a very long, thick cloth pads as back up for night time and these pants have held it in place perfectly.

Lovely feel, no leaks, I am ordering 3

I'm a convert

It's fair to say I was a bit of a skeptic, and a late comer to these - I have a 3yr old and a 1yr old and was happy with my biodegrable wipes, but on the basis they come wrapped in plastic I thought I'd give cheeky wipes a go as part of a drive to reduce my single use plastics.

I am super happy with the product (in my case the towelling starter set) and have made everyone who comes to my house smell them (!!) but in the interests of balance here are the pros & cons for me!

It takes a bit of thinking to work out where to keep them to have them to hand when you need them
I can see that they could become addictive and I may end up buying lots more!!

Really easy to use, and really effective - whether on bums or faces
Straightforward to wash & dry (since I am doing this most days anyway)
Amazing smelling essential oils - no unpleasant smells AT ALL from the mucky box
I purchased them with £10 off in the sale - represents real value for money at this price point
Come up clean following a wash - no alarming staining (yet)

So comfy you forget you're wearing them

I ordered the 10-12 which is my usual size and they fit perfectly, just like normal underwear. So much more comfortable than wearing a pad and so good to know I won't be sending pads to landfill every month.

Another fantastic product

The Bikini Sports Style pants are just brilliant. I ordered a size smaller and they fit perfectly. They feel great and absolutely do what they should. I now own 6 pairs of pants and a mixed selection of the pads - this has been a period game changer! Thank you guys at cheeky wipes
