Our Cheeky Mama Ultrapad Cotton Cloth Sanitary Pad starter kits contain:

Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes or a mucky box to soak your dirty pads

What's the difference between these and the bamboo minky pads? The ultrapads are made of cotton which is a natural material rather than minky which is manmade. As such it tends to be cooler to wear. They are also thinner, so if you prefer a thinner more discreet pad or if you're buying for a teenager, these are perfect for you. They are also less likely to move around as the cotton fabric will stay in place better. The downside of being thinner is that they are less absorbent, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky instead.

Care Instructions:  Cold wash only, line dry, reshape whilst damp. Warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! If you're new to all this (or just new to Cheeky Mama's) then read our top tips on how to use Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads, plus how to care for your Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads - it couldn't be easier!

Love these
Saturday, 1 September 2018  |

I tried these and the bamboo and minky ones and I preferred these. They feel nicer and stay in place better. The downsides are they take a while to dry and you canít tumbke dry them but a dehumidifier would help speed that up I guess. Also they stained quite badly but I know line drying will help bleach that off. I would definitely recommend them

Wow!
Sunday, 30 July 2017  |

I can honestly say that having used these cotton sanitary pads for one period, not only will I never go back to the awful scented plasticky disposable ones, but I only wish that I had made the change years ago, They are reliably leak proof, comfortable, easy to use and wash and the only sanitary product I have ever used which hasn't given me a bout of thrush. I can't recommend them highly enough. The only improvement I can suggest would be one more pad in the starter kit just to not have to worry about them being dry in time to reuse them.

Not what I was expecting
Monday, 8 May 2017  |

I decided to try the starter set based on the picture as it was really hard to tell what I would be getting and what turned up was not what I was expecting. I'm not entirely convinced they are for me either as they kept slipping around when I was wearing them. Having said that they are very comfy and I mostly could forget I had them on.

Response:

Just a couple of ideas for you to stop the slipping - the underside fabric (the minky side) can be brushed in 2 different directions. If you are finding the pad slipping a little, try turning it 180 degrees so what was at the front is now at the back - this sounds odd but if the fabric is going in the other direction it grips better on your underwear and stays put! We also recommend wearing a tighter pant with a high percentage of lycra in, this also helps keep them in place.

Nice mixture of pads to try
Thursday, 4 May 2017  |

I've been really pleased with the pads so far, but due to an error on my part they weren't quite what i was expecting! As they were in the 'cotton cloth ultrapad' section i thought i would be getting a mixture of sizes and colours of just the ultrapads, when in fact you receive a mixture of all pads including bamboo and minky cloth. This is clear now i've re-read the description (entirely my fault for not reading it properly!) but i wonder if this might sit better on the general 'cloth san pads' page alongside the links to the two different types of pad, rather than just under the 'ultrapads' section? Just to save any confusion.

Ultrapads

They're beautifully made, pretty, comfortable etc. However, they were all different sizes and certainly not capable of dealing with a very heavy flow. So will have to use at the petering out phase.

Hi Beshlie, you chose our starter kit, which comes with one liner, 3 day pads and one night pad. They are much more absorbent than they look, so worth trying to see how you get on with them, alternatively try our Cheeky Mama pads which are thicker and therefore more absorbent.

I like the design although the fit is more bulky than I expected, but i think i will get used to it. Showed my daughter who has not yet started her period and she really liked the look of them!

I bought 3 different types of reusable sanitary towels from different companies but love these ultrapure as they're so thin and discreet. The bag is so useful too when your out and about

Fantastic value
Thursday, 20 September 2018  |  Nicki

I have tried cloth pads on and off over the years and never really took to them. I mostly use a cup but sometimes like the security of having a pad too. These are so comfortable and stay in place really well (but snug fitting pants are a must!). I think they are terrific value and my order came super fast.

Great product!
Monday, 10 September 2018  |  Claire

We have been pleasantly surprised by how easy the switch has been and like that you can still use them out and about with the travel bags. You do need to be pretty disciplined and organised with keeping supplies fresh and would definitely suggest a second pack of wipes so you have plenty for wash rotation. We wash them on a 60 degree wash so they are totally clean and have no issue then using bum wipes for hands and face. Although there is the option to have white ones for hands and face and colours for the bum, comes down to personal preference, but they genuinely clean and fresh. We really started looking at this option because my youngest has really sore nappy rash from every wipe brand we've tried leading to us spending a small fortune on sudocream and other such products. Since using cloth wipes its been a miracle for his bum as its no longer red and sore. I love how usually 1 wipe does the job whereas you need to use some 5-6 packet wipes and we were going through them pack after pack with 2 boys! So bottom line buy them we wouldn't go back now having changed across.

Never looked back!!
Friday, 31 August 2018  |  Becky

I bought these around 18 months ago and they still look like new. I originally ran on night pads and liners which was fine. These cope with 'flooding' amazingly well, I have never had a leak. They haven't stained and they are not gross at all. I was sceptical to read that period pain can be reduced by switching from disposables but its true. My flow is a little lighter and doesn't last as long. I just chuck them in with the washing or with the nappies. I now have a few day pads for the last day, purely because they looked pretty and I'm slightly addicted. They are so soft and don't move around in my underwear even thought they're a shiney material. I use the liners every day just chucking them in the normal wash and they are still like new. Granted they're slightly more grey than white on top but I can deal with that. These are by far some of the cheapest CSP out there. I have tried slightly cheaper but these are made so much better. The quality is untouchable.

I 🖤 period pants
Friday, 31 August 2018  |  Bess

Where have period pants been my whole life? How have I ever survived without them? Oh yes, know, by worrying about leakage, the worldís environment and my internal environment. Not any more thanks to these beauties. There was no leakage, theyíre kind to the environment and kind to me too. Just one thing Iíd like, and thatís a few different colours please, including nude. Thanks 😊.

Feeling at peace with reusable wipes!
Thursday, 30 August 2018  |  Alice

I have been feeling guilty. I'm on my second child and adding to landfill like there's no tomorrow. My husband would use baby wipes to clean the child... car... floor... but I just did not like the idea of poo covered wipes being reusable. However, after finding cheeky wipes via instagram, reading reviews and watching videos I thought why not, it doesn't seem that difficult to reduce m! And it's not! I got the all in one kit, rainbow wipes (so I couldn't see the poo) with extra microfiber ones for the dinner table. Filled up the boxes with a bit of help from videos to work out where to fill the water to and which oils to use where (tea tree is the mucky one if you can't guess) and I was away! Absolutely brilliant, it's true that I've only used one wipe per dirty nappy and it's actually now quite a calming activity with the smell of lavender and chamomile. The panic I had over dealing with soiled fabric is not an issue - they just get popped in the mucky box and then easily into the washing machine using the bag. I've taken them out and about with no issue and have introduced them to my little one's nursery. One microfibre wipe has taken over from multiples of baby wipes at the dinner table and I'm so pleased I switched. Who knows, if there's a third child I might even think about reusable nappies.

Really surprised!!
Thursday, 23 August 2018  |  Carly

I purchased the all in one re usable baby wipes kit as I had seen it advertised on facebook. I've always used baby wipes for convenience, but sometimes i feel that I should be doing more for the environment so I took the plunge and bought washable ones. I was a little unsure at first. The kit takes moments to set up and then it is ready to use. Strangely , I couldn't wait for my son to have a poo so I could really test them out!. Well i didnt have to wait long. It only took one wipe to thoroughly clean a poo explosion!. I couldn't believe it. Even my husband was surprised. I've had the wipe kit for nearly 2 weeks now and I won't be going back to disposables. I've washed them and they have come out lovely. I change the water in the fresh tub every 2 days to freshen them up and wash the mucky ones in dettol laundry cleanser on a 30 or 60 wash. I even took them out on a trip for the first time and the travel bags are so easy to use. My little one is always lovely and clean. I will be recommending to them to everyone and will be buying more re usable products from cheeky wipes in the future!

So much easier than disposable wipes
Thursday, 23 August 2018  |  Sarah

Even my husband (who is all about convenience) was totally sold on using these wipes after just one use of them. So much easier than messing about trying to get disposable wipes out of their packet. Plus you only like need to use 1 or 2 per dirty nappy (when you would normally need 5 or 6 wipes).

Surprisingly not gross
Monday, 30 July 2018  |  Fiona

The idea of reusable loo roll was a bit of an uneasy decision, but I wanted to try it. Iíve seen sewage treatment plants and blocked drains frequently through my job, so could certainly see the positives of making such a change.
I have to say that I love it. Itís a much cleaner feeling than traditional loo roll, and the bag system is great inside the mucky box. I have invested in some laundry sanitiser to kill any bacteria that will be growing in the box. This has addressed all of my concerns, and I actually dislike having to use normal toilet paper when Iím out now. Thank you for helping me with this change - I love it! I do have to say that I havenít felt confident to tell anyone yet though - Iím not sure a lot of people would be ready to accept such a change...

Best Pants EVER!!!
Sunday, 29 July 2018  |  Olivia

I got these as I love the cloth pads Cheeky Wipes do. They are so comfortable and do not leak at all even on a heavy day. Iím not a small girl definitely bigger than a 16 and the 16/18 fitted me nicely. I wish Iíd bought more. So nice to not have to technically wear anything at that time. They arenít very thick at all but are so absorbent like magic. I would say only slightly thicker than your average cotton pants. Thinner than regular pads or cloth pads. Iíll definitely be stocking up.
