Our Cheeky Mama Ultrapad Cotton Cloth Sanitary Pad starter kits contain:

Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes or a mucky box to soak your dirty pads

What's the difference between these and the bamboo minky pads? The ultrapads are made of cotton which is a natural material rather than minky which is manmade. As such it tends to be cooler to wear. They are also thinner, so if you prefer a thinner more discreet pad or if you're buying for a teenager, these are perfect for you. They are also less likely to move around as the cotton fabric will stay in place better. The downside of being thinner is that they are less absorbent, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky instead.

Care Instructions:  Cold wash only, line dry, reshape whilst damp. Warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! If you're new to all this (or just new to Cheeky Mama's) then read our top tips on how to use Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads, plus how to care for your Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads - it couldn't be easier!

Beware the shape and size of different pad types.
Sunday, 11 August 2019  |

I got the cotton cloth start kit, as well as a couple of the minky ones. I'm so relieved I got the cotton cloth ones as they are bigger but thinner so I think I'm much less likely to leak wearing these, though I'll likely still have to wear a tampon? Knowing how much I move around in my sleep and during day, I know that I need a long and wide pad. The minky ones seem to be slightly shorter and not as wide, but thicker. The minky charcoal has this fleece like material that just felt a bit hot and weird.

Great

I originally tried the minky pads, but just couldnít get on with them. Cheeky wipes sent me some cotton pads to try and I have just ordered a set as I love them. They stay in place, are absorbent, but not bulky and have become my go to pad.

Ok so far

Only used once so far, but pads seem to move around and are a bit bulky. They're well-made but so far I've found the smaller ones are not suitable for anything other than a 'light' day.

The bag to keep them all in, while useful, is so bright. I ordered a 'grey bird' bag and it's bright red! As the images don't change according to your choice on the dropdown it's not clear what bag you're receiving. It's not very discreet when I'm carrying it to the bathroom at work!

Thanks for taking the time to review the starter kit and I hope the pads were effective on their first use? They are our slimmest pads so I'm sorry if you found them a bit bulky. With the absorbent layers they will be slightly thicker than a disposable but do have more absorbency.
The smallest pad in the kit is the liner and these are great for lighter days or everyday use so I hope they come in useful at the beginning and end of your period. I find 1 liner lasts me the whole day on a lighter day.
We do recommend wearing a good tight pant with some lycra in to keep the pads in place. I go for my trusty M&S bikini style with 5% lycra and they don't budge!

A little big
Sunday, 27 January 2019  |

The pads are made of lovely soft cotton and so feel lovely when you wear them. But they are rather big and bulky - like wearing an old style sanitary pad, and kind of crumple up, rather than lying flat. So, I will probably only use them overnight as I wouldnít feel confident/comfortable wearing them out and about. However, this is really what I wanted them for as I want to not use a tampon overnight. So although bulky, they do work well for what I want.

So comfy
Sunday, 20 January 2019  |

I suffer from "oops" moments due to a complete lack of oestrogen thanks to the joy of breast cancer and oestrogen blocking pills for the last 14 years. I find I need to use pads/panty liners most days (when I am going out) just to feel confident. My skin is red raw in the "lady regions". A few days of these combined with the alternative toilet paper kit and my skin has already improved loads. Nowhere near as sore and no longer bleeding. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Brilliant.

A new beginning

These formed part of my starter kit on my new journey into reusable sanitary products. They are lovely, soft and flexible. I had no issues with leaks. Good for those who are sensitive down there to be able to use cotton pads.

Love these
Saturday, 1 September 2018  |

I tried these and the bamboo and minky ones and I preferred these. They feel nicer and stay in place better. The downsides are they take a while to dry and you canít tumbke dry them but a dehumidifier would help speed that up I guess. Also they stained quite badly but I know line drying will help bleach that off. I would definitely recommend them

Wow!
Sunday, 30 July 2017  |

I can honestly say that having used these cotton sanitary pads for one period, not only will I never go back to the awful scented plasticky disposable ones, but I only wish that I had made the change years ago, They are reliably leak proof, comfortable, easy to use and wash and the only sanitary product I have ever used which hasn't given me a bout of thrush. I can't recommend them highly enough. The only improvement I can suggest would be one more pad in the starter kit just to not have to worry about them being dry in time to reuse them.

Not what I was expecting
Monday, 8 May 2017  |

I decided to try the starter set based on the picture as it was really hard to tell what I would be getting and what turned up was not what I was expecting. I'm not entirely convinced they are for me either as they kept slipping around when I was wearing them. Having said that they are very comfy and I mostly could forget I had them on.

Response:

Just a couple of ideas for you to stop the slipping - the underside fabric (the minky side) can be brushed in 2 different directions. If you are finding the pad slipping a little, try turning it 180 degrees so what was at the front is now at the back - this sounds odd but if the fabric is going in the other direction it grips better on your underwear and stays put! We also recommend wearing a tighter pant with a high percentage of lycra in, this also helps keep them in place.

Fantastic product- super happy customer!

I ordered my cheeky wipes full kit (organic cotton rainbow) just before my baby was born, I kept looking on the website, reading reviews and all the faq's, I really liked the idea of these but wasnt sure I'd cope with the dirty wipes but I wanted to reduce our carbon footprint. I am so, so glad I bought these and made the switch from disposable plastic to reuseable cloth! I have used these for 3 months now and absolutly love them, they are just as easy as using disposable, infact they are better, especially when it comes to poo explosions from a newborn baby, have you tried using disposable wipes for that?! You would need at least 5 or 6 but with cloth wipes you only need 2 max, they wipe up poo so much better! Once you use the wipes you just chuck them in your mucky box with the net bag so when it comes to washing you don't have to touch the dirty wipes, you just throw the whole bag I'm the machine! So easy! I was concerned about my baby's skin before he was born as I suffered with really bad eczema so was worried he would be the same ( so far he has beautiful skin) so that was another reason for trying out these wipes, they are so gentle on babys skin and you only use water and essential oils, no nasties! My boy has never had nappy rash yet, fingers crossed that continues and I truly believe it is from using these gentle wipes! These wipes also wash really well, I love seeing them all hanging on the washing line in the sunshine! ( these are the sad things I get excited about since becoming a mum!) Cheeky wipes customer service is also amazing! I recommend these wipes to everyone I speak to now! And I am so chuffed that the 2 big boxes of disposable wipes i was gifted before having my baby are still sitting in the bottom of the wardrobe untouched! I cant wait to buy more cheeky wipes for mucky hands and faces when we start weaning! My next mission is to make the switch to reuseable sanitary products, which I will definitely order from cheeky wipes too! Such a wonderful company! Thank you so much

Definitely recommend!

Cheeky wipes are very well made. It has been straightforward and simple change. The tea tree essential oil smells amazing and masks any bad smells. The mesh bag that lives in the mucky box is so easy to clip on/off and put straight into the wash. My little girl is now keen to help with her nappy change and wipes herself with the colourful wipes. I would definitely recommend, a superior product to any other wipe.

Just a few days after I received my bundle I started my period. Was very surprised by how long I could wear them and how much they held. The only problem I had was one of the poppers rubbed against my leg and caused me a lot of pain but I believe that was just a result of the pad moving s tiny bit. I wish I had found these years ago as I struggle a lot with certain pads and allergies, these are so soft and donít even smell after a few hours. Love these so much will be buying more stuff in the future.

These are the best. Comfortable, silky, a little bit sexy. Super absorbent, but not bulky at all. Easy to wash. Easy to wear. I love them. And zero irritation from nasty plastics or chemicals. Win win.

I hate wearing pads, but because of my insomnia I can't wear tampons at night as I have irregular sleep times.

I bought a pair last month to try and ended up washing every day and wearing the entire period. I have ordered 3 more now! So comfy for nighttime when you need to relax.

So simple, could have used from birth
Friday, 2 August 2019  |  Roisin

I waited until my baby was 10 weeks before ordering these, thinking that they'd be too tricky for the crazy early weeks. It took me all of 2 minutes to set up and we haven't used a wet wipe since. If anything this is easier than wet wipes - just a trip to the washing machine between sets, rather than the shop. I'd highly recommend this to everyone from birth: cheeky wipes take out all the headaches for a pleasant, fragrant, quick and eco change.
