Cheeky Wipes x City to Sea: The story behind our collaboration
Cheeky Wipes mission is to provide simple reusable alternatives to single-use products, and this is why we are SUPER excited to be partnering with non-profit City to Sea, with their mission to reduce plastic pollution at source.
Here in the UK a staggering 4.3 billion disposable menstrual products are used every year! Many people don’t realise that most period and incontinence pads (including Always, Bodyform and most supermarket own-brands) can contain up to 90% plastic – the equivalent of five plastic bags per pack of 14 pads. Most tampons also contain a thin layer of plastic.
What’s more, although no period products should go down the loo, it’s estimated that between 1.5 – 2 billion menstrual products are flushed down UK loos every year. Many of these items block our sewer systems and escape into our rivers and seas. Period products are now the 5th most common item found littering European beaches.
We've created a range of co-branded products to help raise funds and awareness of their fantastic work. For each one of these pads purchased, we’ll give £1 to City to Sea.

What's in my reusable period and pee proof cotton pad?

What's the difference between the ultra pads and the bamboo minky period and incontinence protection pads?
As the material is cotton it tends to be a lot cooler to wear. It's also a lot thinner if you prefer a more discreet pad. The cotton material helps the pad to stay in place and is less likely to move around!
You can compare the different pads avaliable in the fabric comparison's tab!
I can't get my head around using reusable protection for my period or incontinence control?
Disposable period and incontinence products have a lot of nasty chemicals, dioxins and gels in them to make them more absorbent. The concept may be a bit 'EW' but using cloth pad protection is not only more comfortable, they are SO much more absorbent. The moisture is drawn into the pad leaving you feeling fresher for longer. PLUS, using cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you pay for disposables each month and will reduce the amount sent to sit in landfill each month!

How do I wash my period & pee protection pads?

We recommended our Mucky Box to soak your dirty pads before you put them in the washing for best results. You may want to add some extra pads, our period and pee proof pants stop leaks and oops moments or some reusable intimate wipes for ultimate comfort. Alternatively, take a look at our Cheeky Pants Sanitary Pads kits to save money!
Can putting period blood in the washing machine contaminate my other washing?
An average period is just 30ml to 72ml of blood over the course of 5 days (5-12 teaspoons worth) so there is only a small amount on the pad anyway! For best results, we recommend cold soaking before washing. But even if you put your soiled items in the washing straight away there is NO risk of 'contaminating' anything else in the wash... so chuck em in!
