Our Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pad starter kits contain:

Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes or a mucky box to soak your dirty pads

Bamboo & Minky pad kits contain 5 pads in different colours.

What's the difference between these and the cotton pads? The bamboo minky pads are made of bamboo viscose or charcoal microfleece with a minky outer, being manmade materials, these tend to be a little warmer to wear than the cotton pads. The bamboo minky pads are also slightly thicker and therefore more absorbent than cotton pads, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky rather than the cotton.

Care Instructions:  Wash at 20c or 30c, warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.  Line dry, reshape whilst damp.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! If you're new to all this (or just new to Cheeky Mama's) then read our top tips on how to use Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads, plus how to care for your Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads - it couldn't be easier!

Can't believe I haven't tried these sooner
Monday, 9 April 2018  |

Ok so I reach the age of 46 this month and I can't believe I've been buying disposable products for my entire period life! These are comfortable, absorbent - only needing to use 1 even on my heaviest day - and easy to wash. I prefer the charcoal coloured pads. I used cloth nappies 15years ago for my son ( not cheeky wipes as you probably weren't around then?). I would highly recommend cheeky wipes for nappies and sanitary pads if the conversation ever arose.

The added bits for going out
Tuesday, 3 April 2018  |

I knew that I would need to take a spare pad to work with me so I decided to get this kit so I would have some extra pads. The bag is well lined and fits nicely in my bag, it is very pink though so I have put it in a spare compartment of my bag rather than roaming free. Due to how absorbent the pads are I didn’t have to change at work like I had to with disposable pads so I didn’t get to use it but it was piece of mind for sure!

Changing the world. Period.
Monday, 26 March 2018  |

I have had a bit of a reusable epiphany. When my son was born I bought the reusable wipes and breast pads from cheeky wipes and are still using the wipes today. They are so superior to disposable. So I have now moved on the the reusable pads and I bought this set to try out in conjunction with a menstrual cup. They are so comfortable. I’m aware they are there but no more than disposable and they are not nasty or sticky like they are. When necessary I will stock up with some more. Point of fact I prefer the bamboo but am not adverse to the softness of the charcoal!

Rule 1 for CSPS - don't use fabric with a nap
Monday, 25 September 2017  |

I have recently made the conversion to reusable sanitary products and encountered the Cheeky Wiies website with much excitement. I ordered the starter kit of Cheeky Mama Cloth Pads and I'm disappointed and frustrated. They LOOK ace. Lovely fun designs, gorgeous soft fabrics. But. There are a list of buts. 1. The backing fabric has a nap. Really? Rule 1 for getting fabric pads to stay in place in your pants SURELY has to be to avoid fabrics with a nap? I put them with the nap facing front to back and the pad moved forward as I walk, and vice versa. I nearly ended up in tears in a supermarket without a loo, a heavy period, and a wandering pad. Use flannel. Use cotton. Use anything without a nap! Please! 2. The wings run from end to end of the pad, irrespective of the size of the pad, so when you try to close the wings around your pants on anything other than the panty liner the wings pull your pants in/bunch them up. This also encourages the pad to move around. Disposables figured out pad shaping, lots of CSP makers also figured this out. Why didn't I figure this out before ordering?! 3. The stitching in the terry (at the sides of the absorbent part) is too near the edge to prevent bunching. They are very bulky pads overall (because of the minky) and so I was conscious of ten being visible through skinny jeans but also spent a day feeling like I was getting a permanent wedgy in my lady parts!

The fabrics are beautifully soft, I love the terry, and they're super absorbent. But unwearable. This has been an expensive mistake and I wish I'd just bought one to try first. Sorry Cheeky Wipes.

Response:

Thanks so much for taking the time to review the pads, we do appreciate it and I'm sorry they haven't worked for you. The nap can be tricky but we have all found that by turning the pad round 180 degrees, so the nap goes in the opposite direction that they do stay put all day. Both Helen (founder) and myself wore the pads for a few days at a trade exhibition last week and they stayed in place and were as comfy as usual (we have been using them for a couple years but both "needed" them at the same time whilst away!)
I go for the day pad size and wear my trusty M&S bikini style pants with a lycra in and again, this works well for me whether I'm in skinny jeans or work out gear. In fact, I find my skinny jeans help keep them in place! I hope that helps and you can perhaps give them another go?

Fab starter pack!
Thursday, 17 August 2017  |

A great starter pack - have had no leaking at all. Need to purchase a few more pads but I definitely will now. I am converted, so easy to care for too. Only downside is that in order to keep the pads tight to underwear the fastening poppers are quite close together which can cause the pad to bunch up a little. Any advice to avoid this appreciated. Despite this I have had no leaks and will definitely continue to use.

Starter Pack
Saturday, 12 August 2017  |

I dont have periods anymore but I have a medical problem "down there" which requires me to wear a pad daily. Ive tried every pad on sale to not only find comfort for but also something that isnt irritating my skin as I was getting some sort of chemical burn there. I decided to opt for something more natural and came across cheeky wipes, read the reviews etc. I did contact them and their responses were prompt and helpful. I chose the starter pack, no problems at all, comfy, non irritant and in the long run will save me a lot of money. They wash very well too.

I decided to try these after being fed up of the stickiness of disposable pads. I am not disappointed- the day pads are supper absorbent and not too bulky. The night pad is rather bulky but does a great job. I shall be buying a second set

Comfortable and Absorbent Pads
Friday, 14 July 2017  |

I recently bought cloth nappies to use with my baby and also thought I'd invest in the washable wipes too. Not only does it help save money and the environment which I was very conscious about but they are really great to use. So I thought I'd try the pads. I've used them for the first time and think they're great. They're very soft and much more absorbent than I thought they would be. I'll definitely be investing in more.

Better than expected
Thursday, 6 July 2017  |

I was a little apprehensive about trying cloth sanitary towels. My periods are heavy and I routinely had to use night time disposables throughout my period. I bought the starter pack which only has one night time pad so I did wonder if it would be a disaster. I needn't have worried. The pads are pretty (I got mixed patterns) and super soft. They feel comfortable to wear and no slippage if you take care to check that the nap is in the right direction and knickers are well fitting. No leaking problems and the day time pad coped fine. Washing out was simple and they come up as new. I used a little bit of vanish and washed on a cold setting. They take a while to dry so the starter pack wasn't big enough to get me through my whole period but I'm so pleased with the towels that I've ordered some more. Being environmental is a bonus.

Wish I’d known about these sooner...
Saturday, 21 April 2018  |  Claire

I came across Cheeky Wipes when looking for an alternative to big brand sanitary protection, and although I haven’t purchased the cotton Cheeky Mama Pads - yet - I did go for the Cheeky Bum Wipes Full Kit with extra rainbow cotton wipes and I am so so glad I did. Yes, the intial layout may seem a bit on the pricey side, but I can absolutely confirm that they are worth every single penny, and of course, within a few months they’ve practically paid for themselves anyway, not to mention that you’re reducing the amount of plastic going in the bin by quite a lot.

I opted for the organic rainbow cotton wipes after reading the handy helpful guide ‘which fabric is best for cloth baby wipes?’ I absolutely love them, they have been washed and washed and washed and are still incredibly soft and so far have kept their colour. They are gentle on Bubs’ skin, and I very rarely use more than one wipe per change, occasionally needing two for those extra big poos (where *do* they come from?)! As with the usual baby wipes, I use these for anything and everything, nappy changes, feeding time, a quick wipe down when out and about, wiping food from clothes, floors and furniture etc., so they have proved to be just as versatile and useful.

As for washing, I don’t find I’m doing any more washing than I was beforehand, I have two teenage boys who are shower mad so I just chuck the wipes in with our towels every 3/4 days or so on a 60 degree wash. They wash well and haven’t stained at all, not even from the dreaded tomatoey pasta sauces!

Hubby is converted too and we are now talking about buying the ‘Toilet Paper Alternative Wipes’ (much to our teens’ displeasure 🤣 - they’ll come round) and I have already filled my basket with the ‘Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pad Full kit’ ready for next pay day.

If you are reading this review umming and ahhing over whether or not to take the plunge, do it. You won’t regret it.

Everything you need
Tuesday, 3 April 2018  |  Rebecca

Great quality items, the tub is easy to operate with one hand and the little tabs to hook the wash bag on are genius! The little wash bag is a perfect size too and washes out clean. The pads are wonderful, it is a bit strange at first as you can feel the poppers when you sit down but that is comfort to make you remember you did put a pad on because they do feel more like fabric than a disposable pad. Normally I will have a couple of small leaks if I’ve not been sat upright or lying on my side in bed but none with these as even the wings will absorb too. The little oil is a lovely smell too which also helps when the washing and emptying is needed. Would definitely recommend.

Cheeky Wipe & Cloth Pad convert
Wednesday, 21 March 2018  |  Natalie

I diwcovered Cheeky Wipes in May last year when my son was less than 2 months old.
I started with the bamboo velour wipes  - even hubby wasn't put off nappy changes with these! I decided to buy a full kit with rainbow microfibre wipes and have been able to mix and match the boxes with the bamboo wipes for nappy changes and use the microfibre for face & hand washing now we're on to 'proper' eating.
The wipes are brilliant! They're so nice in comparison to disposable wipes. So soft on his bottom - we've not had nappy rash or aggrevasion to his skin at all. The essential oils are perfect and I even stir a little bit of coconut oil in to the fresh box!
We don't have tears after a face & hand wash either - what bliss.
However, the inevitable stage post-birth was the return of the dreaded periods.
I used to be a mooncup user pre-baby but found when they returned I was finding it rather awful. The disposable sanitary wear came out and I was getting so uncomfortable and sore that I needed to find something to save me. Well - Cloth sanitary pads ... what heavenly delight are these. I agree with previous reviews, tighter knickers are the way forward to stop them from slip & sliding. And the new patterns - beautiful!
I am so delighted with my new purchase and I love the minky bamboo wipes that came free that month. These are great for taking make up off and I'm even using some left over wipes from all of my CW collection to trial going paper free in the bathroom... that may take a little more convincing on the hubby.
I'm an absolute convert and have been recommending you to all my new mama friends and all I can say is, Cheeky wipes - you've made my life easier over the last year and I thank you!!!

Amazing! So pleased I tried!

I love these wipes!!! I was getting grumpy with the fact that disposable wipes came out three at a time, they smelled of chemicals and when you get to the bottom half of the packet you have to fight to get a wipe out and then they all come out together. What a massive waste of money the disposables are!

We use reusable nappies and when I was going to buy reuseable wipes when I was pregnant my friends accused me of going a step too far and boarding the hippy train! Well I ended up having two nappy bins; one for my disposable wipes and one for my reusable nappies. Utter nonsense! So however ‘on board the train’ I was getting I decided to give the wipes a go. Totally amazing! Easy peasy! They smell divine, I did buy the full kit as I like the idea of presoaking the dirty wipes rather than them sitting in the nappy bin and I chuck them in the wash with my nappies. Amazing! Brilliant! Fast service! I’m a complete convert and will never look back, not to mention the fact that you get to help save the planet too!! I intend to buy more when I’m weaning!
Thank you cheeky wipes!!!!

CSP convert!
Friday, 15 December 2017  |  Joanna

Having used cheeky wipes and cloth nappies on my daughter for the last 12 months, it was an obvious step to look into CSP when my period finally returned. I found disposable pads made me feel quite sore and uncomfortable, due to my episiotomy scar. So after lots of research, I decided to take the plunge and order a full CSP kit, plus 5 extra night time pads (so I'd feel secure on my heavier days). For the first time ever, I was looking forward to my period coming, so I could try them out! I was expecting them to feel very different to wearing a disposable pad, but actually they felt quite similar, but without the itch and smell. I was surprised to find I didn't feel desperate for a shower each morning, like I normally would during my period. There was one moment at work, I became a bit worried the pad was showing through my trousers, as it's a bit bulkier than an equivalent disposable, but after a quick check in the mirror, all was well! Like other reviews warned me, there was a bit of movement with the pad, but with a bit of experimenting with underwear, turning pads around and wearing tights/leggings, it wasn't a big issue, and I had hardly any leakage on my underwear and none on my clothes, which I'm not used to! There was one day where I was walking around town, and found the longer night pads, gave me more security, regarding movement, as they're longer. I chose the bamboo top, as I thought I'd prefer that to fleece against my skin, although I was a bit concerned it might feel damp against me - I didn't ever feel wet, although during my heaviest days, I was sometimes aware it needed changing, which is no different to my experience of disposables. I found the soaking system in the mucky box very easy and not disgusting at all. My husband didn't question the appearance of the pink mucky box, alongside our green one, and it feels discrete enough to leave out even when we had visitors. I had a slightly lighter period than usual (not sure if this was a result of using cloth?), and found with 7 night pads, 6 day pads and 2 liners, I needed to wash after the first 2 days, when I'm heaviest. I think I'd find 4 or 5 more pads useful, as it was a struggle to get them to dry quick enough, even with the dehumidifier on. I was surprised not to have to do another wash, but found the pads can definitely be worn longer than disposable ones. I'm definitely a cloth convert, and can't see I'll ever be returning to disposables. Thank you for a brilliant product!

Massive. Baby soft. Smell beautiful!
Monday, 6 November 2017  |  Emma

Bought these as just switched to cloth nappies and disposable wipes were actually more fuss. I’d had a selection of wipes to borrow from our local nappy library and they did the job, but I was so excited when these arrived!

They are HUGE! I am sure one alone will easily cope with a significant poo job or some serious pasta sauce decoration, leaving plenty for freshening up & the rest of the time. I have no concerns about getting mucky fingers.

They are also super soft (we have bamboo velour) and smell beautiful with the oils (so much so I think I can use a little less and make it last longer). We also received some free minkee/bamboo ones with cute little designs on them. They’re even softer (I can’t stop stroking them!) so we decided to keep them dry and use for face freshens with a little tap water and ‘drying off’ when bottom air time is not easy (e.g. when we’re out and about). However the soaking box has enough room for the extras if we did want them wet!

We had a couple of small hiccups with ordering - a missing email and some free wipes left off- but the customer service team were absolutely fantastic and got things sorted super fast. I always feel the mark of a good company is not being faultless but in being experts at fixing issues, and the team were fantastic.

Thank you for a lovely product. Highly recommended!

I'm a convert
Monday, 16 October 2017  |  Helen

I'll admit to being sceptical about cloth pads, but after years of irritation and painful rashes caused by disposables I decided to give them a go. I went for the full kit as it gave me a mixture of pads, some cotton, some minky and with different lengths and so far I'm very impressed. No leaks at all and they're so comfortable. I don't even know I have them on! The free wipes that came with the pads are lovely and soft and the mucky box is great for discretely soaking used pads. I would definitely recommend and will be buying again.

Fabulous make up removal pads
Wednesday, 4 October 2017  |  Maya

I absolutely love these colourful make up removal pads. I chose the gorgeous rainbow pattern ones. I have been using them for a couple of weeks and really impressed with how well they remove my makeup. I'm trying to slowly start using reusable items for myself and family so thought this would be a good place to start. I would normally use at least 10 cotton wool pads in a day for my daily routine, whereas now one cheeky wipes removal pads will do! I love the two textures to the pads, the patterned side it so soft and great for the eye area, takes mascara off no problem and the other side is good for giving your face a good scrub! I'm converted! x

Toilet Paper Alternative Family Cloth Wipes Kit

I was extremely suspicious that this would be gross, but after eharing about it on radio 2, my husband wouldn't stop talking about it, and since we're planning to use reusable nappies for our hopefully-arriving-soon baby I thought we'd give it a go. We love them, they feels great and make the bathroom smell good, Would recommend to give it a go, especially after seeing that article in the BBC news about the 250 fat berg of toilet paper they found under London!

Glad I made the move
Friday, 1 September 2017  |  Lauri

I was definitely one of those ewww! people. But having started using the sani pads recently (and wished I had found them years ago) and then hearing you on Radio 2 I thought I'd give the toilet set a go. It took a while for me to unpack the parcel and start to use it (still at the squeamish stage) but everything is so well thought out, even the way the mesh bag fits into the mucky box and the smells from the added scented oils are great and so refreshing. So now I can say I have used it for a number 2 as well as number 1 and am delighted with how easy it is and how fresh I feel. There's nothing more annoying than paper that tears when you're wiping, and this eliminates all that. I am new to this and haven't washed them yet but it all seems to be going very smoothly. I have now ordered some of the rainbow cloths to replace my cleaning cloths and kitchen paper. Final step is to convince the rest of the family! So glad I found this product!
