It's the annual National Picnic Week this week (22nd to 28th June) and it feels like it couldn't be better timing....
The weather forecast for most of us is late 20s/early 30s (and rising!).
We're still looking for fun things to do while at home from work or school/ childcare...
And - with lock-down rules easing ever so slightly - picnics are now allowed. And even encouraged.
It'd be rude not to, hey? (And mine's a lake view, ton of sarnies and cocktail sausages and perhaps even a cheeky Pimms in a tin since you're asking )
Why reusables are so important in the context of picnics (and why we care so much)
Picnics - fun as they are - are often synonymous not only with images of hampers, checked blankets and ball games in the sunshine, but also images of those same beautiful parks, commons and gardens complete with overflowing rubbish bins (if it makes it into those in the first place).
The rubbish we can all generate from eating when we're out and about (especially with little ones in tow!), and the subsequent impact that that rubbish has on the surrounding environment and waterways are significant. Both the impact we have individually as well as en masse, particularly when the sun's out.
A study in 2019 by Britain's largest cardboard and paper recycler found that
- 11.8m Brits admit recycling falls to the bottom of their priority lists when the sun is shining
- 3 in 10 Brits admit to binning materials they know to be recyclable and
- 1 out of 10 conscientiously take them away with them only to throw out recyclable waste with non recyclable once they get home
So what can we do to lessen our impact?
Personally when my family are out and about I've sworn by Nom Nom Kids game-changing snack bags and pouches for the past 3 or 4 years and genuinely get appreciative comments ALL THE TIME from other parent buddies.
Because they're a smart way to make a lone packet of veggie sticks go further.
Because they're exactly what you need at all times on hand to appease two snack-a-holic children with a plentiful rucksack full of bounty (they make snacks so slimline compared to a load of tupperware or the original packaging so you've got space to stash a good few - in pockets, or handbags, or the glove box of the car).
And because the pouches are fab to decant some yoghurt or a smoothie or even a Weetabix and milk for a brekkie on the go (waaaaayyy less of a disasterous clean up than a newbie eater feeding themselves with a spoon IMO!).
So you can imagine how excited I was when the lovely Suzanne - owner and founder of NomNomKids - didn't think I was completely nuts with my email out of the blue and agreed it would be fun to do something together for Picnic Week. Woop!
With her reusable, dishwasher-proof packaging smarts to contain your picnic of dreams plus our Premium Hands and Faces kit (contains 25 reusable cloth wipes, a 'fresh' box container for storage, a soaking solution of essential oils for keeping them smelling fresh while they're waiting to be used, and both a fresh and mucky wet bag for taking your wipes out with you - and home again!) for mopping up the aftermath (the kit loved by Joe Wicks @thebodycoach just last week no less!) we thought we might just have created the eco-friendly, alternative to disposables, picnic partner of dreams and this is exactly what inspired our joint Friday giveaway.
It's giveaway time!
This Friday (and running until midnight Monday 29th June) we're launching a competition across both of our socials.
One lucky winner will win a bundle of NomNomKids goodies (4 sandwich bags, 10 snack bags, 4 pouches, a wash-off pen and a cotton storage bag) PLUS our Premium Hands and Faces Kit (RRP £32.95).
So what do you have to do to enter?
- Follow both brands on Instagram (@cheekywipes and @nomnomkids)

We'll let you know w/c 29th June if you're the lucky winner.
