Help! How do I dispose of my reusable baby wipes kit?

Thursday, 2 December 2021  |  Admin

You've done your bit to go eco-friendly when cleaning up your baby by choosing Cheeky eco-friendly reusable baby wipes

You've used them well, replacing disposable wipes not just for nappy changes but for all the weaning and grubby hands and faces too, both at home and out and about.

Reusable baby wipes kit - make switching to reusable wipes EASY!

You got some extra cloth wipes when baby number two came along and continued to use your washable wipes for both babies, have saved yourself about £500 and saved hundreds of packs of disposable wipes from landfill.

But your babies aren't babies any more and don't need even need their hands & faces wiping at mealtimes.

Your Cheeky Wipes kit is looking sad and forlorn, unused on a shelf.

What can you do with your reusable baby wipes kit when you've finished with baby bum wiping?

1. Use Reusable wipes instead of loo roll

I'll let you into a secret.  Cheeky Wipes aren't just for baby bums.

If you're the sort of person who prefers a moist wipe to finish wiping themselves after being to the loo (and to be fair, who doesn't...if you got dog poo on your arm, you wouldn't just wipe it off with tissue), then instead of buying disposable wipes, think about switching to Cheeky Wipes for bigger bums too.

These chlorine free wipes work perfectly alongside our 'wet and wipe' spray' to replace disposable wet wipes and leave every bottom feeling clean and fresh, even on sensitive skin.

Many older women find this particularly helpful as vaginal dryness after menopause can be really sore and irritating and using dry toilet paper on their delicate skin down below exacerbates the problem.

Wet & Wipe spray is an eco-alternative to wet wipes

Switching to reusable wipes and water along with 'wet and wipe' spray can really improve these symptoms for many people.

Even if you can't get your head around the idea of using them for adult poo, they're brilliant for wiping after peeing.

You'll feel clean and fresh and will know that there's no little bits of tissue gathering in your nether regions.

But if that's a step too far for you, what else can you do with your reusable wipes kit?

2. Reusable wipes instead of disposable cleaning wipes

We've all seen those packs of cleaning wipes in the supermarket.  They're just so unnecessary!  Use your old Cheeky Wipes as cleaning cloths.

They're brilliant for cleaning anywhere in the house and because you'll have lots of them around, just wash and reuse.

Save a fortune on buying cleaning wipes and also save landfill too.

But what about the wipes containers themselves?  Looking for ideas to reuse them?

3. Wipes containers reused as toys storage / food storage / in the garage

Our boxes are pretty robust and we've seen some pretty interesting ideas for how they can be reused.

From storing lego to craft materials, screws and nails to food colourings and sprinkles, our boxes can be used over and over again for storing those little bits and pieces you accumulate around the house.

One of our customer services team even uses hers for letting her bread dough prove!

4. Sell your second hand reusable wipes kit

There's a cracking market for reselling your used wipes kits too.  Whether you use a selling platform like Ebay, or Gumtree or list via Facebook Marketplace, there are always people looking to buy used wipes kits at a reduced price.

It's great to think that although you do spend upfront in buying your wipes kit, you'll be able to recoup possibly half of that cost when you resell your kit after using it.

This really makes switching to reusable wipes a fantastic way to save money,  especially in a world where prices are rising daily.

However if you don't want the hassle of selling online, you could think about donating your kit onwards.

5. Donate your cloth wipes kit to charity

UK Nappy Network - find a cloth nappy library near you

The UK Nappy Network is a network of cloth nappy libraries are always looking out for good condition wipes kits that they can lend to local people.

This works either on a short term basis until clients buy their own,  or as long term lets to families who are struggling financially.

They've got a fantastic interactive map online where you can see the nearest nappy library to you, donate your used wipes kit and also get that feel good factor from knowing you're helping others make more sustainable choices too.

6. Recycle your reusable wipes and wipes kits

If you've gone through all those options, or perhaps your kit has been damaged in some way,  the good news is that the elements of the kit can be recycled.

The wipes boxes themselves are Polypropylene with a recycling code of 5.

If your local authority mentions any of the following in their recycling, then this plastic can be recycled:

  • Plastic Straws
  • Take away tubs
  • Ketchup bottles
  • Plastic picnic ware
  • Plastic bags

The cloth wipes themselves can be used until they are threadbare.  Once they're past this stage, they can be recycled in any fabric / clothing recycling collection point.

Summary

We hope this gives you something to think about if you're considering ditching disposables and making this year the year you choose reusable
