Our Cheeky Pants Ultrapad Cotton Cloth Sanitary Pad starter kits contain:

Optional: Add extra pads, some reusable intimate wipes or a mucky box to soak your dirty pads

What's the difference between these and the bamboo minky pads? The ultrapads are made of cotton which is a natural material rather than minky which is manmade. As such it tends to be cooler to wear. They are also thinner, so if you prefer a thinner more discreet pad or if you're buying for a teenager, these are perfect for you. They are also less likely to move around as the cotton fabric will stay in place better. The downside of being thinner is that they are less absorbent, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky instead.

Cheeky Pants Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill! Bamboo / Bamboo Charcoal facing upwards

Insert the pad into your knickers with the bamboo or bamboo charcoal face upwards.  Close the poppers underneath the gusset of your knickers.

Tight Pants

Firstly, I usually try to wear fairly tight fitting pants.  If you usually keep your old, saggy. baggy pants which have really seen better days for that time of the month, time to invest in some new ones!  Tighter pants will help a cloth pad stay in place and avoid slippage.  Cotton knickers are best or cotton / lycra mix.

Turn around if you suffer from slippage

The soft outer Minky fabric has some grip - if it is inserted against the nap of the fabric.  If you notice that your pad is slipping, turn it around 180 degrees, front to back.

  • Rinse them in cold water when you change them and then soak in cold water until you are ready to wash them.
  • Wash at 20c or 30c on a longer cycle, warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.
  • You can give them a squirt of stain spray and/or add a scoop of stain powder to the wash

  • No fabric softener!

  • Line dry, reshape whilst damp.
  • Do not tumble dry

  • No bleach

  • Wash dark colours separately.

Incredible Product

I absolutely love these reusable sanitary pads... They've changed my life! They feel a lot more comfortable than single-use pads and they are really easy to wash and keep clean. I'd highly recommend them!

Love them!
Friday, 14 August 2020  |

I dithered for a while about switching to reusable sanitary pads but am so glad I did and wish I'd done it much sooner!
I love these pads, they're so comfortable and absorbent. Having worn them in the recent spell of very hot weather, they're also really cool too. They don't make the horrible rustling sound that the disposable pads make and they stay in place.
I just need to order more now...

Very easy to use
Friday, 10 July 2020  |

I was wary of cloth pads, but thought I'd try them and I'm glad I did. They feel so soft against your skin and are much cooler than disposable pads. They are easy to rinse and wash and come out lovely and clean. No more getting caught out for forgetting to buy pads, these are always there on hand for when you need them. My periods aren't always regular and vary from being really light some months to heavy on others but these pads provide comfortable protection for all days.

Great intro to reusable

Great little kit with everything you need to try out the different sizes and see what works for you. Like the products and they've washed well, so I'll be sticking with reusable from now on.

Well thought out
Monday, 16 September 2019  |

I went for a starter kit as I wasn't 100% sure what I would need or how I would get on with these but I am very happy with them. The whole kit is well thought out and well made and I shall be recommending them!

Beware the shape and size of different pad types.

I got the cotton cloth start kit, as well as a couple of the minky ones. I'm so relieved I got the cotton cloth ones as they are bigger but thinner so I think I'm much less likely to leak wearing these, though I'll likely still have to wear a tampon? Knowing how much I move around in my sleep and during day, I know that I need a long and wide pad. The minky ones seem to be slightly shorter and not as wide, but thicker. The minky charcoal has this fleece like material that just felt a bit hot and weird.

I originally tried the minky pads, but just couldnít get on with them. Cheeky wipes sent me some cotton pads to try and I have just ordered a set as I love them. They stay in place, are absorbent, but not bulky and have become my go to pad.

Ok so far
Wednesday, 13 March 2019  |

Only used once so far, but pads seem to move around and are a bit bulky. They're well-made but so far I've found the smaller ones are not suitable for anything other than a 'light' day.

The bag to keep them all in, while useful, is so bright. I ordered a 'grey bird' bag and it's bright red! As the images don't change according to your choice on the dropdown it's not clear what bag you're receiving. It's not very discreet when I'm carrying it to the bathroom at work!

Thanks for taking the time to review the starter kit and I hope the pads were effective on their first use? They are our slimmest pads so I'm sorry if you found them a bit bulky. With the absorbent layers they will be slightly thicker than a disposable but do have more absorbency.
The smallest pad in the kit is the liner and these are great for lighter days or everyday use so I hope they come in useful at the beginning and end of your period. I find 1 liner lasts me the whole day on a lighter day.
We do recommend wearing a good tight pant with some lycra in to keep the pads in place. I go for my trusty M&S bikini style with 5% lycra and they don't budge!
