FAQ: Can I use Cheeky Wipes instead of cotton wool and water?
One question which comes up again and again, is whether Cheeky Wipes can be used instead of cotton wool and water, particularly in the first 6 weeks of your baby's life.
This is because the NICE clinical excellence guidelines which midwives follow recommend that just water is used for cleansing during this period.
However it can be a bit of a faff to use water and cotton wool which has to be soaked each time you use it, which also makes it tricky when out and about (or in the middle of the night!).
The good news is that Cheeky Wipes can be used during this period, simply by tweaking the soaking routine slightly:
- Soak just 10 wipes at a time in your fresh box with plain tap water
- Once used, pop into your mucky box & mesh bag with water and the teatree/teatree lemon mucky oil and wash as normal
- Keep the remaining wipes dry and ready for use
The fresh oil acts as a preservative, keeping your wipes fresh for longer, so whilst you can soak them in plain water, you can only soak as many as you'll use in a day.
In reality, I used my Cheeky Wipes with the lavender & chamomile fresh oil from birth with baby no's 2, 3 & 4 as I already had them soaked for use with my older children and couldn't be bothered to have two separate lots of wipes on the go. It's personal preference at the end of the day, so the choice is yours!
