What's the difference between these and the cotton pads? The bamboo minky pads are made of bamboo viscose or charcoal microfleece with a minky outer, being manmade materials, these tend to be a little warmer to wear than the cotton pads. The bamboo minky pads are also slightly thicker and therefore more absorbent than cotton pads, so if your periods are on the heavy side, we'd recommend the bamboo minky rather than the cotton.

Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads are an eco-friendly, healthier, more cost effective alternative to disposable pads. For those new to cloth sanitary pads (csp) the concept can be a little “Ew!” but to be honest using cloth as opposed to disposables is more comfortable. Because they are so much more absorbent, moisture is drawn into the pad, leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

Disposables have to contain lots of nasty toxic chemicals, dioxins and gels to enable them to be absorbent, which can lead to sensitive skin, irritation and thrush. Bamboo however, has a natural antibacterial quality and because it allows your skin to breath, can potentially reduce the risk of yeast infections and discomfort.

Of course it goes without saying that cloth pads will cost a fraction of what you would be spending on disposables each month which just end up sitting in landfill!

Why not add some of our reusable intimate wipes to your order and / or a wetbag for carrying clean and dirty pads / wipes? Take a look at our Cheeky Mama Sanitary Pad kits and SAVE money!

Bamboo / Bamboo Charcoal facing upwards

Insert the pad into your knickers with the bamboo or bamboo charcoal face upwards.  Close the poppers underneath the gusset of your knickers.

Tight Pants

Firstly, I usually try to wear fairly tight fitting pants.  If you usually keep your old, saggy. baggy pants which have really seen better days for that time of the month, time to invest in some new ones!  Tighter pants will help a cloth pad stay in place and avoid slippage.  Cotton knickers are best or cotton / lycra mix.

Turn around if you suffer from slippage

The soft outer Minky fabric has some grip - if it is inserted against the nap of the fabric.  If you notice that your pad is slipping, turn it around 180 degrees, front to back.

  • Rinse them in cold water when you change them and then soak in cold water until you are ready to wash them.
  • Wash at 20c or 30c on a longer cycle, warm washing sets blood stains and can damage your pads.
  • You can give them a squirt of stain spray and/or add a scoop of stain powder to the wash

  • No fabric softener!

  • Line dry, reshape whilst damp.
  • Do not tumble dry

  • No bleach

  • Wash dark colours separately.

  • Vegan friendly
  • Oekotex certified
  • Paraban free
  • SLS free

So glad I switched
Wednesday, 17 June 2020  |

I switched to these pads a couple of months ago and Iíll never look back to disposables now. These feel so natural against my skin and theyíre more absorbent than disposables.
I was surprised at how well they washed too, if you follow the instructions. They come out white every time.
You need to buy a clean/dirty bag or box to hold them in. I have a bag I have hanging in the bathroom with clean ones in one pocket and rinsed ones in another. Just till I have a few to then put in the wash. I take a smaller version if I go out.

The only two downsides (Which are not enough to stop using them), are if youíre out and about and thereís no sink in your cubicle... youíre not going to rinse them publicly, so you have to carry about a full one, which Iím not overly comfortable with. Also, they do tend to move about a little as itís only poppers keeping them on your knickers, not the sticky back like disposables. Nothing major though.

Only used a couple of times but very comfortable, love the practical double popper. Wash well and feel more pleasant than plastic.

Good, but struggle with movement
Monday, 18 May 2020  |

These absorb really well. I have a very heavy flow, so use night pads during the day for the first couple of day, and then these. They are really comfy, but I struggle with them slipping slightly as I walk about during the day.

Response:

Thanks so much for taking the time to review your pad selection and I'm so glad you are finding them effective. The slipping can usually be resolved by turning the pads round so the minky material grips the pants material. The other tip is to go for tighter pants. I tend to wear my trusty M&S bikini style with 5% lycra and have never had a pad budge on me in 5 years.
Give it a go and see if that improves things with these and the liners.

Definitley won't regret buying these amazing pads!
Thursday, 30 April 2020  |

Buying your reusable pads was one of the best choices I ever made! They are soooo much more comfortable and nicer than the disgusting plastic ones. Finally, no more nasty smells, no more leakages and no more harm to the environment. I tried these bamboo pads a couple of days ago and I was amazed how much they protect and feel good to wear. The night-pads are a perfect size for heavy periods like mine and I can calmly sleep without worrying about leakages. Washing them is also very easy. Of course there will be a bit of staining (very light) on the bamboo ones but that's normal (but the charcoal ones do come out like new after washing, so good to try both options). Basically, these pads are absolutely amazing! I feel fresh and happy wearing them. Thank you so much for making and selling them!!

I want to love them but..
Friday, 24 April 2020  |

I really want to love these but they just do not stay in place. I am a very active person and there is no way I can work out while wearing these as they just slide up and down my pants. Even walking they end up either all the way up the front or all the way up the back. I tried adjusting the poppers, but that did not work. Also wore different types of underwear with different smugness, also did not work. The night time ones are great. Partially because they are so big they have no wear to move! They are comfortable and easy to wash, just wish they would stay in place.
